Course Curriculum Overview

3

I chose my course because I honestly like to code, and I have had Python and C++ in my curriculum till now. The curriculum is pretty relevant for the current market, and gives you a fair amount of insight into the subject. It gives you real learning opportunities when you prepare for group projects, and is a good base for further academic pursuits. It however could include practical learning through the use of projects, but is a good system regardless. The teachers sometimes do not provide you a PDF for the modules they cover, which I think should be made compulsary in every course. The exams and their timings are evenly spaced, giving enough time for learning and practicing.

Fees and Financial Aid

Year wise, the fees depend upon how many marks you got in the VITJEE entrance exam. I pay around 2,00,000 rupees a year, because i got in at category 1. However, it can go upto 4,50.000 a year in academic fees if you get in through lower categories, and even higher for management quotas. They usually ask for a 2,50,000 advance to reserve admission, which is returned to you after you are enrolled into the college. There are scholarship opportunies, but are extremely rare and overly competetive.

Campus Life

3

Anually, you have the convocation event, events on diwali and new years, and various events like hackathons, sports and tech fests, a few of them being TechnoVIT and Vibrance. The social circles are pretty nice once you get settled with your friend group. You can opt to join event committees and can be a part of it yourself. The library has an extensive amount of books, and has a large collection of any piece of literature you might need. All classrooms have wifi routers and projectors. You can honestly take part in almost every sports and extracurricular activities you like if you bother to register. The student run social groups include sports groups, cultural groups including regional groups which conduct fests from time to time. The extracurricular opportunities on the campus are abundant for the average student.

Hostel Facilities

2

The room facilities depends upon the room you have got. You have the all in 1 setup, which has the table, closet and bunk bed all in one frame, or you have the other setup, which gives you a bed, a closet and table all seperate. Each room gets shelves and mirrors. You can choose AC rooms during hostel counselling, which you may or may not get. The mess food is usually decent for being mess food. It isnt anything to look forward to. The registration process for hostels is pretty straightforward, but is a bit expensive.

Admission

I applied to Manipal, SRM and BITS. I cleared SRM and Manipal entrance exams, and was getting CSE in both, while I got cleared for only Civil in BITS. I wanted to study computer science, so I skipped BITS. I did not choose SRM as the threshhold for getting into the college is shockingly low, and it is honestly not what i desired. And I did not choose Manipal due to personal reasons. VIT takes it's own entrance exam, which gives you a rank based on your score. You must have 60%+ in 12th and 10th board exams, and get your course and category based on your rank. The admission experience is a bit rough, but gets pretty smooth once you get your spot reserved.

Faculty

3

There is approximately 1 faculty for every 150 students. The approachability factor of the faculties depends on the faculty to be honest. I really liked Maheswari N, as she was a teacher that gave the class appropriate amounts of time for activities, as well as taught her subject really well. A few faculties I liked were Bhardwaja Kumar G and Anushka K. There werent any faculties I have disliked yet, as most of the faculties I have had were pretty nice to me. Exams are dependent upon your slots and subjects, and are honestly subjective person-to-person. The course curriculum is pretty accurate, and if you study correctly, gives you a lot of insight for the field you are in.

Night Life

3

The nightlife is horrible as they do not allow you to leave the campus freely, and also have a strict time limit on the hostels. The gym is extremely crowded at almost all times, and the equipment is by no standards adequate for the amount of students. For boys, the max time in hostels is 9PM, after which they do not allow entry. Famous hangout places include the cafeteria and the Academic block. The average life is extremely boring as the administration is extremely strict.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.
