Remarks
I can say that compared to other colleges the fees are very reasonable. The college is also in a quiet town. But the curriculum and the imparting of knowledge could certainly be improved to a great extent. The college focuses mostly on attendance rather than the content they teach. Students face a grave lack of opportunities and are always coerced to follow the college syllabus. The teachers definitely talk about external learning and building up of skills but there is no effort from their side to implement the same.
Course Curriculum Overview
I feel like the present curriculum focuses more on teaching the students about the theoretical aspects of a lot of subjects rather than specialization and industrial training on a particular topic. Our course approach is too much theoretical and very less practical. The curriculum is outdated by years and not even close to the present standards of the industry. One of the biggest problem is that in the name of attendance we are not even given the chance to study ourselves and be industry ready. People here focus on the wrong things and are not ready to accept that these things are outdated. Our exam involves too internal exams and one external exams. Students who don't clear the cutoff of the internals don't get to sit in the externals but that has never happened in my experience. They are given multiple chances to clear the internals in the form of 3rd and 4th attempts. After they clear the externals they move on the next sem. If a student fails to clear some the subjects he gets a chance to clear it in the form of makeup examinations.
Placement Experience
Very few. Only service based companies with low packages come in our companies because they are aware that the students are not trained enough. The highest package that our college gets is 5-6 lakhs. There is zero scope for internships. We are criticised on the other hand if we want to do an internship on our own by pulling off the old attendance shortage excuse. The placements training provided by the college focuses only on English and Aptitude and no technical training which is the most important factor for a computer science student.
College Events
CRESCO - a technical and verbal event organized by IEEE PESCO - the college's annual festival that goes on for 3 days involving all forms of fun activities AVIGHNAN - a cultural festival revolving mostly around dance, singing and other cultural forms of activities
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is less than other private colleges since it is a semi government college but still substantial for COMEDK students. Financial aid is provided to students from coming from CET , the entrance test available only to students native to the Karnataka state.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship is provided to minorities as well as based on categories. It is also based on merit and to students coming from union territories in the form of Government of India quota aid. There is financial aids for local students belonging to the state. There is no loan facility as far as i know.
Campus Life
All the extracurricular activities are done by the students themselves. These include technical workshops and non technical events. Most of the activities are organized by IEEE and Glug, the student activities groups in our college. The labs are good enough for our department and really good for departments such as mechanical and civil. Our college also supports sports activities to the full extent and we have many tournaments and players from our college in cricket, basketball, football, badminton and many such. There is also good infrastructure for the sports activities.
Alumni/Alumna
There is no official alumni network. Some of the passed out students sometimes come back on invite to share their experience or take a workshop. Most seniors stay away from this college and constantly criticise it. They don't come back relating mostly to the small town that our college is located in.
Admission
We gave a national test COMEDK through which ranks were allotted to students based on marks obtained. Aftet that there was counselling where we got to choose our college from the list of many colleges in Karnataka. After that there was the admission procedure in the college itself.
Faculty
I feel like very few faculties are experienced and carry enough knowledge to teach us well enough. Even fewer of them try to take initiatives to bring on new content to keep the students up to date with the present technologies. Some old faculties don't want to let go of the outdated syllabuses. We are constantly hurdled by them if we try to do any technical events in the form of attendance shortages.
