Life at IIM Rohtak

Life at IIM Rohtak is no less than a roller coaster ride. It gives you all the highs and lows along with moving at a rapid pace. One needs to be on toes always and those who survive this ride, emerge as true managers with a totally new and broader perspective. The two years of MBA are really rigorous, but as it's rightly said, ' Good things don't come easy'.

The course curriculum is totally a case based pedagogy. One studies almost 500 real life industry based cases in the entire two year tenure of IIM Rohtak. This gives a broad understanding of how the industry has evolved over time along with the management approaches which have been applied to solve the problems. The entire curriculum at IIM Rohtak is divided into 6 trimesters spread across a tenure of 2 years and a 2 month compulsory internship has to be undergone by the student after the completion of first year i.e. 3 trimesters. The grading system is a continuous assessment process wherein numerous assignments and quizzes are undergone by a student which combined with a mid term and an end term every semester gives the grade in that subject in the semester.

Being a premier Institute of the nation, there are great opportunities provided for summer internship as well as final placements. Till date all the 8 batches at IIM Rohtak which have passed have secured 100% placements. Also, companies visiting the campus are some of the prominent brands of the nation. Since I was interested in Finance and strategy so I opted for a Fintech company for my summer internship. I did my summer internship from Indus Valley Partners, one of the leading Fintech of the world as a business analyst. The stipend for the same was 70,000 per month. The selection process for me in IVP included shortlisting of my profile based on CV, group discussion and 3 rounds of interview. It was a rigorous process but IIM Rohtak prepares a student well for this too. There's a student driven Placement Preparation Committee which prepares students well for GD - PI.

IIM Rohtak is known for its gender and cultural diversity. It was the only IIM in 2018 with equal number of boys and girls and also students from 19 states of the nation. Hence each and every day was like a celebration at IIM Rohtak. Talking about some specific events - 1) Mini Marathon - A mini marathon is organised every year by the students of IIM Rohtak and it's the biggest marathon in the state of Haryana which last year saw a footfall of more than 6500. 2) Starup Expo - It was conducted this year in the month of February at Pragati Maidaan, New Delhi and saw a large number of startups participating from all over the India to pitch their ideas to the VCs. 3) Infusion- this is the annual management-cultural festival of IIM Rohtak and the biggest management festival of North India. This time it was a non stop 72 hour carnival with more than 10000 students visiting the campus from all over India. Likes of current miss India - Anukriti Vyas, Harrdy Sandhu, Candice Redding etc. made the event lively. Apart from these prominent events, each and every festival at IIM Rohtak is celebrated with full enthusiasm at the campus.

The total program fee for me was around 13 lakhs. It's pretty less when compared to other premier B schools of the nation like other old IIMs or other private institutions like MDI, XLRI etc. where the fee ranges somewhere around 18-22 lakhs for a 2 year program.

Since IIM Rohtak is a premier government Institute, hence all the major banks provide collateral free loans to the students at nominal interest rate. At the time of admission when one visits the campus, representatives of all the prominent banks are present in the college and one can decide which bank to choose for taking loan. The instant loan disbursal happens without any hassles. Some of the common banks which students choose for taking the loan are - SBI, PNB, CBI etc.

IIM Rohtak has a plethora of clubs and committees which keep on organising various engaging sessions for students. There's a sports committee which organizes where sports tournaments like Cricket Premier League, Football premier League etc. There is a cultural committee which organizes cultural events like War of Sections, Freshers, Farewell etc. Also , clubs like Voice Club, Swaniti, Sparsh etc. keep on organising various activities for the students to make the campus life lively.

IIM Rohtak moved to its permanent campus in the year 2018. The new campus is a lush green 200 acre campus with all these facilities. The hostels are made like flat system, wherein 1 flat has 4 rooms attracted with washrooms, a Hall and a small kitchen. Every child is given a separate room which is very spacious including a bed, table-chair and an almirah. Also each room is having a separate air-conditioner. All the three meals are provided in the college mess and the food is healthy as well as tasty. There's a student run STORE too at the campus for all the basic amenities and food items.

Currently it's the 10th year going on since the college began and hence the alumni network is not so strong because of lesser number of students in the initial batches. However, with current batch size of 250+ and students proving their mettle in various industries, the alum network is bound to become stronger and stronger as the time passes. Also, IIM Rohtak is totally student driven so the seniors are really helpful. Without their help it would become impossible for a student to survive in the initial days of MBA. Right from guiding for the placements to choosing the right stream for specialization, there's constant mentorship provided by the seniors to their juniors.

Gave CAT in 2016 and scored 97 percentile. Got shortlisted for interview round in common admission process (CAP) which is a combined second round process for 9 IIMs. It includes a Written Aptitude Test and a Personal Interview. Finally cleared this round and got a call from IIM Rohtak to start my MBA journey from 29th June '17.

IIM Rohtak had 27 permanent faculties during my education years and those were really impressive. Each and every faculty was a doctorate from a renowned management Institute and had published his/her research in a A+ or a A category journal of the world. Furthermore there were guest faculties visiting us too from the industry/academia to keep us abreast with the latest industry working styles and the effective application of our theories in real world.
