Location is little issue as it is not connected nicely from air (nearest airport Lucknow 80km)I found culture of UP is little bit different.

JEE, AIEEE, IIST, KVPY, BITSAT JEE Rank was around 1900, I was branch selective rather college selective.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course are very wide and contains little large syllabus. Student have large no of open courses, so gives freedom to pursue your interest. Faculty is good, some are very good.
Internships Opportunities
Interned at SAC, ISRO, Ahemdabad, Gujarat, India Learned a lot about working and culture at large research based institutional organisation. Avg stipend at IIT Kanpur is abut 40,000.
Placement Experience
Very good placement opportunity due to very good name of the institute internationally and alumni support. Average package is varying based on departments. Roughly about 12,00,000.
College Events
To much cultural, sports, technological events and workshops are organised both intra and inter college level. Other national and international competitions like codfests etc are also in queue Antragni Udgosh Techkriti Etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Very affordable education cost. Since it public institute, so government is spending a large amount for some of the countries best students. Currently annual fees is about 1.2L. But institute offers large no of scholarships (around 40% students) in amount of 15k to 60k.

Merit cum means for low income students, Merit based scholarships for good scholar performance Sports scholarships SBI loan can be availed up to 4-5L very easily with very less interest till student complete their academics.
Campus Life
Sports: Its the best place for sports as IIT Kanpur has over 1000 acre campus, cricket, football, hockey, squash, tennis, Swimming pool, indoor baddminton, pool and what not can be named. Around 10 clubs like aeromodelling, robotics, electornics, programming, dance, drama, musicals.
Hostel Facilities
Truly speaking, I had not thought of so good hostels in a government institute. Even toilets are very good :)Mess food is ok, but its cooked in very hygienic environment.
Alumni/Alumna
Very large alumni network across the world. Senior junior interaction is ok, but expects more. We can find very good seniors guiding you in your specific interest.
Exam Structure
2 semester yearly Both semester are of 4 months each 3 months summer vacations, 1 month winter vacation and 2 breaks in each semester.Exams are: mid sem, end sem and few quizzes (sometime surprise).
