Remarks

Positive: There are some teachers who are true to the legacy of the University and understand the liberal and helpful mindset that this University has always tried to promote and implement. Negative:The current system is nowhere near to that it used to be in it's Golden Ages, with attendance criterion and inconsiderate behaviour by most authority causing havoc on the life of otherwise diligent students

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Neatly planned, if very rigid and forced if I would dare to say.I mean, such a subject should be taught in a passionate manner so that it is inculcated into your mind forever and not just a tool for increasing your GPA.

College Events

2

Milleu PUCL PUFL Arthatantra Derozio Memorial Debate These are few of the events that I have taken part in or know about. The festivals have seen a decline in the past years due to a rigid and unforgiving criterion of 75% mandatory attendance has been implemented on us.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Not very feasible and not very expensive. This happens to be a government University with very strict and rigid cut offs. However the new attendance criterion having been implemented ever since 2015 has been a real Economic problem to students, since even today it is not safe for girls to travel alone especially at night. Thus most parents of conservative girl students have to suffer alot including accompanying them regularly(leaving all the worries of household domestic matters behind and unattended). It is also the ridiculous case now that parents of students are not allowed into the campus and literally shoon away like wild animals if they desire to enter so as to give their ward a message or something. This is very problematic and thus has personally affected my attendance and academic career a great deal. The fee structure is not too low, being a government University.

Fees and Financial Aid

No.None that I know of.There are some scholarships although I am not sure as to whether they are for regular students. The education system in this University is as I had stated, quite expensive despite being a Government University.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

I am not a hostel student as this. University is located if at a distance but in my hometown of Kolkata. Thus I am unaware of this matter but the recent outrages and student unions have voiced against the injustice done that the hostel students are not treated properly and that it lacks adequate infrastructure.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes. They are helpful. They are the reason I got in to this University. They were helpful and made me practise sample papers so that I could get a grasp on subjects I had never studied before, given that I was always a science student And I decided to pursue philosophy.

Exam Structure

Very rigid in my opinion. There is no scope for free flow of thought. Philosophy being a subject of such passion should not be treated like a math problem at all. It just feels like a study and vomit situation to be honest. The exam patterns should be more creatively organized.

Admission

Admission Test. A very challenging admission test criterion was a mandate for entering this college as it still holds a merit based entry.I was met with various hurdles on my journey to enter this college but in the end I am glad I made it.

Placement Experience:

Most of the placements that took place at least for the literature departments ended up with people joining educational institutes and NGOs. Very few joined corporate enterprises like Accenture. But it does provide almost a 5 LPA, if well placed. It is academically rigorous, therefore academics are weighed more than industry.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for applying for internships after the 3rd semester, and students can apply for placements only after 4th semester. Companies like Ericsson, Ernst and Young, JPMG makes visits our department for mostly analyst roles for economic and fundamental trading decisions. The highest offer made was 45LPA while the average is 7.5LPA. The median pakage is 8LPA. Almost 90% students secure placements after completing their degree since the Training and placement cell is pretty proactive in securing good company visits. I plan for investing and analyst roles in banking companies. I would sit for placements hoping for the same.
