Course Curriculum Overview

4

Because of autonomous status of NIET, it creates a pretty good curriculum which has some disadvantages too. Taking about advantages, we have communication classes for 2 hours for 2-3 times a week. These are not just for effective communication, we have to create a journal to reflect upon ourselves and write about it each day. In many activities, students learn to work in a group. It's an overall personality development for all. It makes us ready for the real world challenges. Talking about the disadvantage, which is subjective, is that we're taught 2 programming languages in a workshop which happens at the semester end, and lasts for just 1 month. I don't think it's an adequate time to learn 2 languages for those who have never come across a programming language before. Also there is an external practical exam after the basic course of the programming language is completed, in which not many students score well. Besides that there are 3 tests of 30 marks in the midst of each course. So, one can imagine how hectic an experience it would have been. In my perspective, exams are not too much difficult, but they're difficult enough to get someone a back if they have not studied properly. As i mentioned earlier, there are 3 sessionals, 3 weekly tests and 1 end semester exam. Thus, there is a constant feeling of unease related to exams as they are never over for long enough to get student a peace of mind.

Internships Opportunities

4

There's a company that the college has hired to provide guarenteed internship opportunities and placement assistance to students starting from 1st year. That same company provides its services to some IITs, as they claim. I believe that the college is doing it's best to provide internships to students. Well, i haven't tried to get an internship yet. I'll start searching for internships from 3rd semester.

Placement Experience

2

Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester. There begins placement training. The college never shares the exact placement data so we don't know the number of companies that visit and the offers they make and the percentage of students getting placed. The average package is around 5 lakhs pa. The highest package is 40 lakhs pa. To my guess, placement percentage would not be more than 60%. Many students consider statring a startup from as early as 2nd or 3rd year. I plan to either get placed for atleast 12 lpa, or go for masters through GATE.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fee for first year is 179100 rupees. It includes tuition fee (118400), registration fee (4800), exam fee (11500), training and placement fee (5000), institute industry interface fee (5400), caution fee (5000) which is refundable, and rest are compulsory charges for student welfare and outsearch activities. Fee for other branches in btech is same as that of cse. From next year onwards, the yearly fee is 155700. There are not much scholarships offered by NIET other than that of AKTU which NIET is affiliated to. AKTU offers scholarship for financially weak students having yearly family income of 1 lakh pa or less and to obc, sc, st categories.

Campus Life

2

Haha, for first year the campus life is just like school life, we get out of classes only during lunch time. The only thing that makes a difference is the interactive nature of classes. There is a pitiful small library in the first year campus which only contains course books. There's no space to stand and read, just issue a book and leave. The other campus has a larger library with electric connection and variety of books, and with wifi. Talking about that, wifi doesn't work when you want it to work. In classrooms, there are no step-wise elevated benches. It's falt structured and there is an appreciably 1 digital board in each class, which works decently. Talking about extracurricular activities, we don't get eniugh time in first year to even participate in cultural activities of groups and clubs. There are a lot of student run clubs and societies, which have a positive influence on the college population, but one can efficiently participate in such things after the first year, because seniors from 2nd to 4th year run these groups and the campus for them is situated about 1 km far away from 1st year campus, so 1st year students can go for activities after the college gets over at 4:30 pm.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel facility is very good but very strict for 1st year students. The meal quality is mostly average and sometimes good. The meal is nutritious but evening snacks are just mostly unhealthy. The cheapest room with just a fan and 3 beds is around 1 lakh including the mess charge. Well, the rooms and the washrooms are quite big, and well furnished, and well cleaned and maintained. The menu keeps changing because sometimes they include a dish which the majority doesn't like to eat. They replace it something better each time. Some of the dishes that remain unchanged are chhole bhature, veg biriyani, paneer 2 times a week, poha at evening, aalo paratha in the morning and some more.

Admission

I chose NIET over other colleges because i was influenced by it's innovative approach to the curriculum and because it has gained a much better reputation than many other colleges in greater noida. In terms of infrastructure, it is not very good, it's average. Other colleges i applied for, like kiet and jssate, had way better infrastructure than this one but i couldn't make it to them because of my low score in entrance examination. I was sometimes distracted and faced personal life problems while i was preparing for the exam. By the time i fixed my problems, there was not enough time left to study so good that i could make it to a better college. Admission process requires a score of JEE Mains and it occurs through either UPTAC counselling or by direct admission. As there are only 10-15% seats for direct admission students, most prefer the counseling option. Well, cutoff depends on the course one chooses, the category to which he belongs, class 12th marks in PCM (for direct admission) and whether he belongs to uttar pradesh or not. The approximate cutoff for btech cse for general category is 75 percentile in JEE Mains.

Faculty

4

Most of the faculty is above average and the rest are excellent at teaching. The faculty to student ratio is about 1:70 and 2:70 for communication classes and labs. They're easily approachable and cooperative. Most of them stay till 5 pm, so students have around 30 minutes to resolve their doubts after college. Most of them allow students to ask doubts during college hours. I didn't like 2 faculties, one for he was unable to teach properly to students and the other for he is too strict about discipline and silence. He punishes students harshly for creating even a slight disturbance, anything which he considers as disturbance. I cant name them for the sake of my safety. Some of the faculties i liked are Mohit Pathak sir, Anjali Pundhir ma'am, and Mohit Tyagi sir. For each semester there are 3 sessional exams of 30 marks, 1 end semester exam of 100 marks and 3 weekly tests of 10 marks for each theoritical subject.

Interview Experience

5

No, i didn't face any group discussion or interview or written test since i got admission through counselling. I just had to submit the required documents in physical and digital format, and my admission was complete. For direct admission process, it might be required.

Night Life

1

I laughed at this question.. There is almost no night life in this college. Hostel students are expected to get inside the campus by 7 pm. If they're late by half an hour or 1 hour, they have to call their parents and make them talk to warden. We get to our hostel by 5 pm, then we have only 2 hours to change, eat snacks and wonder what to do in the rest time. Library also closes by 7 pm. The only hangout spot is the playground inside the campus. Outside the campus there is everything far far away, about 4-5 km far. Locality is safe to roam around, because almost no one lives around here in a radius of 5 km. There are only colleges and universities in this area. The marketplace is 3 km away from the campus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I want to be a software developer. The faculty are very kind and helpful. Almost every faculty member has completed there post-graduation from various established colleges. The examination scheme is a little bit slow here. Students can pass their semester exams if they are paying at least 45 per cent of their concentration.
