Remarks

Positive - The patient load is huge so you can actually see and learn a lot of cases that you wouldn't get somewhere else. There's also a big ground right in the centre of our college so we don't have to go elsewhere for our sports, which is rare in other medical colleges of kolkata. It's a big campus, so you can go for an evening stroll. Negative - well it's my college, and I love it so no negatives from my side.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Back when I was preparing for it, it seemed so hard. There were so many questions and not enough time. But I guess it does judge a basic understanding and intellect of the student. And when lakhs give an exam as big as this, the curriculum will suffice according to me. NEET has 45 questions each from chemistry and physics and 90 from biology. Each question has 4 marks and a wrong answer costs you minus 1. There's 3hrs time so it's quite hard that way.

Placement Experience

5

Yes internship is mandatory for a MBBS student without which the student doesn't get the license to practice after completing internship. Currently the stipend for internship is around 23 thousand. Job opportunities are ample but maximum students try to opt for post graduation.

College Events

5

There's our annual fest -ECSTASY, IN SEPTEMBER. Following which comes the Fresher's welcome given by the 2nd year. There's also different important days celebrated in our college like Rabindra Jayanthi, saraswati puja and the likes.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Government medical college has a very feasible fee structure. There are 9 semesters in total. Though the college fee is very feasible but the books are not. They are pretty expensive and we need more than 1 book for one subject. Private medical colleges take a hefty fee as is knows by almost everyone I guess.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarships available from the government for poor students but I don't know the specification of each. I haven't availed any scholarship as of yet. There's also scholarships given by some companies for studying in the top 3 medical colleges of Kolkata also that I've heard of.

Campus Life

4.5

The recent 1st year has hoards of extracurriculars, starting with language classes, sports, field works, computer classes, music, dancing and what not. Though we didn't have any of these, I guess the curriculum changes according to the need and the medical council decided to incorporate these because of some reason. Labs are in good condition, you get the instruments and chemicals. Sports are frequently held here. The most famous is the day and night cricket tournament which has both girls and boys and intra year tournaments. Apart from these, there's football, table tennis and others.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I have opted for the hostel facilities. Rent is very cheap so according to the price, I think the infrastructure and the facilities are very suitable. There's water coolers, lifts and a beautiful garden in my hostel. Also there's a badminton court in the centre of it.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are the most important people after the teachers sometimes before the teachers even. They are the ones who show you what to do, when to do, and especially what not to do in front of a particular teacher. Seniors are always helpful in my experience and they are pretty great to have fun with too!

Admission

Well, every Indian 12th standard science kid will be burning their midnight oil at days on end to crack one of the toughest entrance exams in India. In my time there were separate state and all india medical exams which has been merged into one nationwide medical entrance exam NEET nowadays. You get 3 subjects, biology, chemistry and physics. You get good marks and a good enough rank which decides your college. I was fortunate enough to score good enough to be a part of the prestigious Nilratan sircar Medical College.

Faculty

5

Our teachers are eminent proffessors and doctors who have instilled in us the love for the specific subjects and also as this course is closely related to being empathetic, we learn a lot as how to care and maintain proffesionalism even in hard times. It's not easy to see the human sufferings day and night, but this is still a develop country and it does not have resources to cater to the bounding population. We have to do with what we get, that's what we learn from them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well, mbbs is very hard and long term process. You will be bored in 1st year because you cant get real clinical cases. But in Final year, 3rd Prof Part 2, you will get huge pressure. Because there are total 11 subjects, you should study in final year. It is a great burden for all. I'm not satisfied with Nmc curriculum. They are not thinking about students. They are implement their rules in chilled ac room. But they don't know the real scenarios.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
