Likes
- Exposure to research laboratories is amazing, faculties are very co operative and encourage students to do research
- Cultural exposure is amazing, people from all over the world study here, accordingly all festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm
- If you study well you cab become a 9 pointer and there is no attendance criteria (75%) for those students, they can explore their interests further
Dislikes
- The weather in Chennai is scorching and extreme, it is tough for students with weak immunity to survive the heat
- Hostels do not have 24*7 AC, AC is switched on only at night from 6 pm to 6am
- Some faculties can be biased towards South Indians and treat North Indians/people of other language poorly
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is standard as to what is asked by comapnies during placements Computer Networks, Operating Systems, DBMS, Cloud Computing, Java, Python, DSA, C/C++ are important subjects and they are covered well in the curriculum Faculties teach using normal chalk and black board as well as display ppts and teach via the smartboard CAT1 is easy, CAT2 is tougher since open book, FAT is mix of easy and tough questions
Fees and Financial Aid
Paid 4.5L per academic year for 3 years now, as Category 4 Student No extra fees, everything covered in academic fees Paid 2.1L as hostel + mess fees (2 AC + Special Mess) Category 2 friends are paying 2.5L per academic year Category 5 friends are paying 5L per academic year
Campus Life
Feb/March: Vibrance (Cultural Fest) - Many celebrity singers and performers are invited to perform (eg: Shreya Ghoshal, Jonita Gandhi, Santhosh Narayanan, Mohan Sisters etc., food stalls are organised and other events are conducted Oct/Nov: TECHNO IT (Technical Fest) - Many technical events such as hackathons, seminars on trending topics etc are held, food stalls are organised and other events conducted. Foreign universities take part as exchange programs. Exposure is good.
Admission
I gave VITEEE, BITSAT, MIT, JEE MAINS + ADVANCED Got into VIT Chennai, did not qualify for BITSAT, got okay-ish rank in MIT but did not go since parents did not like the location and did not qualify for JEE ADVANCED Went for VIT Chennai since my relatives live in Chennai and my parents felt it is a reliable city
Faculty
There is 1 faculty for a class of 60 Faculties are super approachable, you can approach them to ask for guidance in not only the subject they teach but also other domains Some faculties put a lot of pressure in the name of assignment submission, this can be pretty tiring and ruin your chances of getting out and getting more exposure 3 exams per semester: CAT 1, CAT 2, FAT and internals CAT 1 is closed book, CAT 2 is open book and FAT is closed book Internals is decided as per faculty, some may ask to present a research paper, some may give 3 quizzes, some may give written assignments etc
Night Life
Girls' Intime is 8 pm Boys' Intime is 9 pm Common Campus Intime is 6 pm (for dayscholars) Hostellers cannot go outside the campus until their proctor and parents do not provide approval So no nightlife as such Paid and free gym both available Library is huge (3 floors) Gymkhana, North Square, Gazebo are popular food spots
