- Campus life and environment . My overall experience at DTU was nothing short of fun. The campus is large , green and lively and makes life enjoyable . There are many technical societies , cultural clubs so students get plenty of opportunities.
- The faculty at DTU is quite experienced . Some professors are quite supportive , knowledgeable and approachable when it comes to solving doubts be it personal or professional .
- DTU has a strong placement record with many well known companies visiting each year DTU students achieve well and aim high in placement season.
Dislikes
- Like many government offices , DTU administrative sometimes can be very slow in terms of paperwork , approval or certain academic issues.
- A noticeable drawback in DTU is the gender ratio which can go 20:1 in core machinery branches to 1:3 in environmental branches .
- While the infrastructure is top notch some of the labs are relying on old machinery though working fine but still can be upgraded to keep the students upto date.
Course Curriculum Overview
I would rate the course curriculum as **fairly comprehensive and reasonably relevant**, especially in terms of building a strong foundation in core engineering concepts. One of the factors that influenced my decision to choose this course was the **structured curriculum covering important fundamentals such as programming, data structures, mathematics, and core engineering subjects**, which are essential for both technical roles and higher studies. The curriculum provides a solid theoretical base and helps develop analytical thinking, but for real-world applications students often need to complement it with **projects, internships, coding practice, and self-learning**, since some topics are still taught in a more traditional or theoretical way. In terms of improvements, the curriculum could benefit from **more industry-oriented electives, practical assignments, updated lab work, and interactive teaching methods such as case studies or project-based learning**. The exam system typically includes **two major exams per semester — a mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam — along with internal assessments, quizzes, and assignments**. The exams are generally **moderate in difficulty**, and students who attend classes and prepare consistently are able to perform well, though the evaluation tends to focus more on conceptual understanding and written exams rather than purely practical skills.
Fees and Financial Aid
In my exprience , the fee structure of DTU is relatively reasonable compared to many private tier 1 colleges though its still a significant expense . For my batch the tuition fee was 1.48 Lakhs and when all charges were included it came close to 2.5 Lakhs per year. These include labs upgradation fees , student welfare fees , development fees etc. If we look at the overall 4 year fees it comes around 10-11 Lakhs per year in general category . There are also some one time payments that comes during the admission time. Mess charges can go upto 80,000 per year if the student chooses to stay inside the campus in hostel. For SC/ST students the fees is much lower because many of them recieve government scholarships that reimburse tuition fees either fully or partially . There are also merit based scholarships which give financial relieve to the students. Overall , while the fees are not low but are justified considering DTU reputation , infrastructure , placements and environment. The fees increases gradually per year but not sky rocket like private colleges.
Campus Life
My overall campus life experience at Delhi Technological University has been very active and socially engaging because of the strong culture of student societies, events, and campus facilities. One of the biggest highlights of campus life is the annual festivals organized by the university. The main cultural festival is Engifest, which is usually held in Februaryand is one of the largest college cultural fests in India, featuring concerts, competitions, and performances by well-known artists. The university also hosts Invictus, the annual technical festival, where students participate in hackathons, robotics competitions, workshops, and innovation challenges.Apart from these, there are other events such as E-Summit organized by the entrepreneurship cell and Yuvaan Literature & Film Festival, which further enrich the cultural and academic environment. The central library provides access to a wide collection of textbooks, reference materials, journals, and digital databases, which students use for coursework, research, and projects. Classrooms are generally equipped with projectors and basic digital teaching tools, enabling faculty to use presentations and visual aids during lectures. The campus also offers several sports facilities, including grounds and courts for football, cricket, basketball, badminton, athletics, and indoor games, along with events such as the annual sports meet and other inter-college competitions. Student life is also strongly shaped by student-run societies and clubs such as the Entrepreneurship Development Cell, robotics societies, dramatics society Pratibimb, cultural and debating societies, and technical clubs that regularly organize workshops, competitions, and collaborative projects. These groups play a major role in building teamwork, leadership skills, and social connections among students. Overall, the combination of large festivals, active clubs, good library resources, and sports opportunities creates a vibrant campus atmosphere w
Admission
I chose Delhi Technological University (DTU) mainly because of its strong reputation for engineering, good placement record, and established alumni network. During the admission process, I had considered other colleges as well, including some NITs and state engineering colleges through the JEE Main counselling process. However, I was unable to qualify JEE Advanced, so IITs were not an option for me. Even among the colleges where I could have secured admission, DTU stood out because of its consistent placement statistics, strong coding culture, active technical societies, and location advantage in Delhi, which provides better exposure to internships and industry opportunities compared to many other institutes. The admission process for DTU is primarily through JEE Main, and students are allotted seats through JAC Delhi counselling depending on the category and quota. To be eligible, students must have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized board and must have appeared for the JEE Main examination, which is the most preferred exam for admission. The cutoffs vary every year depending on the branch and category, but for popular branches like Computer Science or IT, the ranks required are usually quite competitive. My admission experience was smooth overall; after qualifying JEE Main with a decent rank, I participated in the counselling process, filled my preferences, and was allotted DTU. After document verification and fee payment, the admission was confirmed. Looking back, although not qualifying JEE Advanced meant I could not pursue IITs, choosing DTU turned out to be a good decision because it still offers strong academic opportunities, good peer learning, and excellent placement prospects. The overall admission process was transparent and merit-based, making it a fair pathway for students who perform well in JEE Main.
Faculty
At Delhi Technological University , the faculty is nothing less than amazing , full of experience . The student ratio goes from 1:15 to 1:3 varying from department to department but still all the faculty treats everyone equally . Faculty are well trained and well qualified and they are approachable after class to resolve students doubts. In my department I particularly like Dr Dhirendra Kumar because he himself push the students to their max level and encourage them to do better and better always and motivating them and inculcate self discipline within them. There are a few teachers whose teaching style is more theoretical and less interactive but they are very approachable. There are 2 exams majorly in a semester naming Mid Semester exams and End Semester exams apart from the class tests which vary from subject to subject. The subjects are moderate level and the passing rate is quite high except the ones who miss the paper or don't work for the exams.
Night Life
The nightlife around Delhi Technological University (DTU) is fairly relaxed but still enjoyable for students, especially those living in hostels. Inside the campus, most academic buildings and the central library usually close by evening (around 7–8 PM), although students often study in hostels or common study areas later at night. The campus gym and sports facilities typically operate during the day and early evening hours. Hostels usually have entry timings late at night, though students already staying inside the hostel can move around the campus freely within limits. The campus also has canteens and small food outlets, some of which remain open until late evening, making them popular spots for students to relax after classes. Many students unwind by spending time with friends in hostel common areas, playing sports, coding together, or working on projects late into the night. Outside the campus, there are several popular student hangout spots in nearby areas like Hudson Lane, NSP (N
