Course Curriculum

8

  • The courses are very different from India; they take a few concepts and go very much in-depth in assignments and projects.
  • We also had industry experts from related domains give guest lectures.

Admission Experience

  • I had chosen Sweden as a country mainly for its rich Engineering companies and my previous work experience in the automotive Industry. Within Sweden, I had chosen Uppsala University as the courses in my program I was able to relate more to the courses in my program. I always wanted to specialize in Embedded and this was the best choice.

Class Schedule

8

  • The classes are spread across the entire period. A semester is two periods; it's a very common way here in Sweden. The classes don't follow a fixed schedule for a week and repeat. The classes can be scheduled at any time during the course. Some days you might have back-to-back from 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM, and some days no class at all or just one class. There can be a time when you have two classes at the same time. Here you are free to choose your own courses, but ultimately fulfil the requirements for a degree by the end of the second year. Usually the classes are 1 hour and 45 min. It starts with a 45 min session, a break for 15 min and then another 45 min.
  • The average student is hard to tell. I have had classes with just 4 people and as many as 80 people.

Faculty

8

  • I will say around a 1:10 ratio for faculty to students in my department of Information Technology. They are approachable and supportive, particularly at the Master's level, where class sizes are smaller. Swedish academic culture follows a flat hierarchy; professors are addressed by first name, and office hours are times when they are actually available.

Campus Life

8

  • The campus is very modern and cozy, the classrooms are of various sizes, and they are equipped very well. There are libraries on every campus and a big public library. The city is just full of University buildings.
  • Uppsala, being a student city, has a very rich Swedish student tradition that is tightly coupled with studies. They are called Student nations and they form the heart of social life here. Sports are very much part of them, but as being a cold climate, the sports are seasonal.

Part Time Jobs

  • Part-time jobs off campus are almost impossible to impossible that can pay off your bills. On-campus jobs are very limited when we look at English speakers. The off-campus jobs are mostly food delivery or working in a restaurant, which don't pay much, and we pretty much need Swedish in the Service industry here.
  • Sweden does not yet have a maximum hourly limit for students working. A typical average living cost is around 8000 SEK here. On-campus positions are very few and competitive to get.

Placement

2

  • It varies year on year, but will say around 30% in my course. Post graduation, Sweden gives a 12 month Visa for you to look for a full-time job.
  • It is around 35,000-40,000 SEK per month.
  • There are no campus placements here; students usually have to find by networking, LinkedIn, or other portals like Indeed.

Accommodation

Off Campus
4

  • For international Students the University has a housing guarantee, which means you get a furnished accommodation when you arrive here, the rent can be from 5000-9000 SEK per month based on your choice of accommodation.
  • Students usually search Facebook a lot for temporary ones. Many move into the furnished ones, which usually include a table, chair, bed, two lamps, and bed side table. Later, they moved to a different place.

Exams

  • There was just an IELTS or an English Proficiency requirement. I had written IELTS and got 7.5 overall.
  • Admission is via Universities Admissions, a portal for all students; you can apply for up to 5 colleges. You just have to upload all the documents expected by the program at that university as files.
  • As we are from a non English native speaking country, we need to have IELTS with a minimum of 6 in each section. My program did not have a LOR requirement, but I did upload LOR, CV, and SOP.

Fees

  • Approximately 25 Lakhs INR
