Course Curriculum
- The level of difficulty was moderate but challenging at times. The Modules were a mix of practical and theory which made it more fun.
- Positives – Great classrooms and Lecturers, Access to Bloomberg terminals for Finance courses made it very good to get a taste of professional data analysis, There were Tutorials where the formulas were discussed in detail and questions were solved.
- Negatives – Quant Heavy course- MY course specifically was quant heavy and you have to learn statistics and mathematics atleast till 12th level.
- There were 5 lectures per week and 5 Tutorials per week. The timing cannot be specified as it can differ from morning to evening.
- The course does prepare you well for the corporate roles, with great industry insights and practical applications. But as the UK job market is worse now, it is hard to procure a job.
Admission Experience
- Status of applied colleges:
Rejected - Imperial College London
Accepted – Rutgers University, USA
Accepted – Queen Mary University of London - I wasn't accepted in Imperial because I only applied with my IELTS Score and GPA from bachelor's. Students applying with a good GMAT/GRE score are always preferred and have a strong chance of getting an acceptance letter. Also, focus more on preparing a good Statement of Purpose and LOR.
- I chose QMUL over Rutgers because of the Global rankings and as QMUL was ranked in the top 150, I got a scholarship from the Govt of Rajasthan. (100% Tuition).
- My Eligibility-
1. IELTS Score - 7.5
2. Bachelor's GPA - 8.4/10 - The overall admission experience was pretty good and flawless. It was an online application and everything was done efficiently and without any hindrance.
-
I applied for the Fall 2022 intake. Mostly students apply for the fall intake because companies hire in Fall when they complete their degrees.
I applied in February and received the admit within a month. I hadn't completed my Bachelor's at that time so the requirement was to complete my degree with atleast 7.0 GPA overall. During application, there were no hindrances. It was plain and quite simple with everything mentioned very clearly.
Faculty
- I admire our Financial Derivative and M&A Module professors. They are pioneer in their industry and our working professionals with industry experience.
- As per my experience, didn't receive any help from faculty to get part time or full time opportunities.
- There were around 50-60 students in my course. Around 40 were Indian students.
- The faculty to students ratio was quite good as there were Tutorials for each module which made us solved questions and gave further insights into the statistical tools. The quality of education is not at all hindered by anything and is pretty good.
- The interaction with faculty is welcomed at any time and everyone is very inviting. They are polite and try to answer all your queries and doubts related to studies.
- The teaching methodology during the lecture was in the way of presentation and discussion. During the Tutorials, it was question solving.
Campus Life
- My college has two campuses. My campus was Mile End Campus and it is the main campus of the University. The other campus is in the city centre and is mainly for Law students.
- My campus had a huge library which was accessible 24x7 and had a good collection. Everything was done online - issuing books and giving it back. There are many clubs including Hindu society, Cricket club, Running club - to name a few.
- As I was pursuing a Masters course, we weren't very interested in participating much in activities and those things are mostly for Bachelor's students.
Part Time Jobs
- I don't have the information on this cause I did not pursue any of the part time opportunities available.
- The students are allowed to work 20 hours a week part time on a student visa. The base rate is €12/hour.
- There are TA, RA opportunities available but none of my friends applied for that including myself, hence I cannot speak much on this.
- Securing a job outside campus is not hard but competitive as London is one of the most famous destination for studying and many students apply for jobs. A few of my friends were able to secure jobs such as - Restaurant manager and stuff, Salesman, etc. Even though it might take some time to find it, but mostly people are able to get part time opportunities while studying.
- Students on average earn £12-15 per hour by working 20 hours a week. You got to have your National Insurance Number and an updated Resume to apply. The applications are mostly online on the websites of the employer.
Placement
- I cannot speak on the percentage of placement for my batch. Only one of my acquaintance were able to secure a job and that too cause he had previous work ex in India of about 4 years.
- Students can earn around £20,000-35,000 per year after they graduate depending the course and their work experience.
- Common methods to find jobs - Networking and Online applications. My friends from the course are back in India, most of us weren't able to find jobs.
- Leading companies include - PWC, Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs, etc.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation online - IQ Student Accommodation. The name of my building was IQ East Court. It is situated right opposite to my University and is a very convenient location.
- The rent was €1200 per month which included one studio room with kitchen and bathroom (private). Addition were a lounge room, cinema room and a gym - all free of cost. It was pretty easy to book it and everything was done online. It is secure and easy.
- Indians mostly live in private housing or University accommodation which is cheaper but doesn't has much private space.
Exams
- Exams compulsory - IELTS. The minimum IELTS requirement was 6.5 overall and my score was 7.5.
- The GRE/GMAT is not compulsory to get an admit, if you have a good GPA and track record in academics, the University will waive it off for you.
- Documents Required: Academic Transcripts - Grade 10th and 12th, Bachelors Transcripts, Statement of Purpose, Letter of Recommendation and CV.
- There was no interview conducted.
Fees
- My total expenses for 1 year was - Rs. 55L
- Scholarship received from State Govt - 38.5L
- Tuition - 28.5L
- Accommodation Rent - 14,50,000
- Food (Tiffin Service) - 2,50,000 (5 times a week)
- Other expenses include - Eating out, Travelling and Liesure activities.
- My rent is a bit higher cause I chose the accommodation right opposite to my campus and lived alone in a studio. Students can choose private housing or even University housing and share their rooms with other folks which can decrease the rent significantly.
Scholarship
- Not specifically for my course, but yes the University does offer some scholarships for different Schools like School of Economics and Finance, School of Business, etc.
- I got a Scholarship from the Government of Rajasthan - Rajeev Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence. The residents of Rajasthan can get this Scholarship if they get an admission in top 150 universities across the globe (QS Rankings). The Scholarship is further divided into sub parts which is by income-
1. 8L or below would get 100% Tuition + 12L for living expenses.
2. 8L or above would get 100% Tuition + 10L for living expenses.
3. 25L or above would get 100% Tuition only.
These were the details when I applied for the Scholarship, there are some changes made now.
