Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- When I was deciding, my counsellor recommended the University of Hertfordshire because of its reputation for strong career support and a welcoming environment for international students. Initially, I was nervous since I came from a non-technical background and was stepping into data science & analytics, so choosing the right university felt critical.
- Pros I considered: 1. Career opportunities and employability focus 2. Supportive student community 3. Inclusive and approachable faculty 4. Location and facilities.
- Cons I considered: 1. At first, I was worried about the cost of living and whether the investment would be worth it. 2. I also felt unsure about adjusting to a new culture and academic system as an International student However, once I came here, I realised the worth.
- The pros outweighed the cons significantly – the environment pushed me out of my comfort zone and provided opportunities I never imagined. Looking back, it was not just the right choice academically, but also personally and professionally.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- The University of Brighton had limited seats and high competition for the course intake that year, which made the selection process very competitive. While I wasn't offered a place there, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
- Joining the University of Hertfordshire gave me far more opportunities than I could have imagined—from leadership roles as a student rep and school community organiser to career exposure through Student Circus. Looking back, it was the right path for me.

Class Schedule
- Around 4 days a week we had classes. Mostly in the mornings, with a break, and sometimes sessions in the evening. Exact slots vary by module and are confirmed on the university timetable each term. About 80-100 students per class.
- Approximately 60 are confirmed on the university timetable portal each term. 5. Around 2 hours a day on average
Faculty
- The ratio is balanced, and the faculty is very approachable. Mariana Liley and Andrew Pyper for their encouragement and positivity and motivating and inspiring teaching style.
- Yes, faculties are supportive in sharing their guidance and sometimes connect students to opportunities through their references.
Campus Life
- We have 2 campuses (De Havilland Campus & College Lane). There are well-equipped gyms, sports halls, a swimming pool, outdoor pitches, plus library facilities and student health and wellbeing services.
- On De Havilland Campus, there is HertSquad Sports Fair, as well as many sports & social clubs and student union events like "Welcome Fest", movie nights, games nights, etc. Students can join over 25 sports clubs, partake in arts & cultural events, SU-led clubs, and social mixers, fairs and wellness events.
Part Time Jobs
- Expect roughly 12.21/hr. Herts actively hires student staff and advertises roles via Herts SU. Entry-level roles are available, but competition spikes around term start—apply early and be flexible for evenings/weekends.
- Process: 1-page CV + short cover note – apply via Herts SU/Uni portals & job boards – right to work check + NI number – trial shift
- Limited and competitive; hourly rates typically sit around entry-level university casual pay. 13-15 pounds per hour.
- Student Ambassador/SU and admin event/event roles are common; pay is at least NLW; jobs appear regularly but fill fast at term start.
- Max hours per week is 20 hours/week in term time for student visa holders; full-time is permitted in official vacations
Placement
- About 96% of postgraduates are employed or pursuing further education within 6 months of graduating.
- In the range of 35000 to 70000 per year. Through University career services, placement modules, job/placement fairs, networking with faculty and peers, and industry placements offered during the programme.
Accommodation
- I looked for accommodation mainly through online platforms, the university housing portal, and student accommodation websites. The main challenge was the high demand and limited availability of on-campus housing.
- Start searching early before the semester begins, explore both on-campus and private housing, and always check reviews or consult with the university's accommodation team for safe and reliable options.
