Course Curriculum

10

  • Very updated and application-level. The emphasis was on understanding concepts and applying them in real-life situations.
  • Assignments were based on real-life problems in countries and economies, preparing us for the real world.
  • Exams were online, open-book, with strict AI and plagiarism checks to ensure fairness.
  • The final four months were dedicated to the dissertation, working closely with a professional and supportive professor. Mistakes were expected, but guidance encouraged innovation and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Mostly four 1-hour sessions per day. Classes were relaxed, inclusive, and interactive. Reference materials and slides were uploaded to the class application.
  • Roughly 30 students per class, with a diverse mix from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the UK.

Admission Experience

  • Swansea University was ranked among the top 500 universities under the QS rankings
  • It was, and continues to be, among the best universities in the UK as ranked by The Guardian
  • Wales was more cost-friendly than England, not only in terms of course fees but also in living expenses
  • The admission process was smooth and hassle-free, and I received the offer letter within 15 days
  • Communication with the university was fast, clear, and prompt
  • The requirement was IELTS with a minimum band score of 6 (my score was 7.5).

Faculty

10

  • Faculty and staff are very professional, approachable, and supportive. They encourage questions and discussion, making learning engaging.
  • Professors are well-versed in their subjects and bring real-world insights into the classroom.
  • One professor who left a significant impact was my dissertation supervisor, who guided us patiently, encouraged innovation, and helped us think critically about real-world problems.

Campus Life

8

  • Exceptionally good. There was no pressure. Rather, we are encouraged to find the balance between fun and studies. The college environment was relaxed and enjoyable.
  • Work assigned in class had to be submitted before the deadline. There will be absolutely no leniency.
  • A whole lot of sports and clubs to choose from, with strong encouragement from teaching staff to join extracurricular activities.
  • More than 100 clubs available. Students can easily do 2–3 sports or clubs at a time.
  • Clubs are easy to join, inclusive, and hold social weeks to help students connect and get comfortable in the new city.
  • The library provides quiet study spaces, group discussion rooms, and access to journals and online resources, making it very easy to complete assignments and research. Books are available for rent, and in case they are taken, the university offers e-renting services as well.
  • The university also provides free access to reputable platforms like JSTOR, which publish journals and papers that are otherwise expensive. This is incredibly helpful for reference work and for accessing the most relevant research materials.

Part Time Jobs

  • Hourly pay for part-time jobs is typically between £10–£11. To apply, students first need a National Insurance Number, which can be obtained online in about two weeks. After that, they can search online or walk in with their resume for opportunities.
  • Maximum allowed work hours: 20 hours per week during academic terms, 40 hours during breaks. On-campus part-time jobs are limited in Swansea; demand from students exceeds the available roles, and there aren’t many shops around.

Placement

6

  • Given the job market, around 50% of the graduating batch secures employment within six months of completing the course.
  • The average salary range for most students in the UK, I believe, is £28,000 per year.
  • There was no campus recruitment. The university has an employment cell that assists students in finding relevant jobs based on their expertise and field of study.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • Found accommodation via Google (thisisfresh.com); property name: Ty Nant. Student accommodation, ensuite room, £135 per week. Facilities included: gym, washer and dryer, study rooms, communal spaces, social nights, and parking. Convenient location: adjacent to train and bus stations. 24x7 security provided.

Exams

  • Requirements: IELTS (my score 7.5), Academic Transcripts, Statement of Purpose, Resume, Degree Certificates, SSLC and Higher Education Certificates, 2 Letters of Recommendation.

Fees

  • Total tuition fee for the 1-year program: £19,250.
  • Living expenses, including rent: around £12,000.
  • Overall, including living costs, the total comes to approximately £28,000–£30,000.
