Course Curriculum
- My course was mixed. The course was designed in such a way that we studied theory in classrooms, and we also had practical classes and a study tour. The positive part was that every faculty member used to focus on all the students during classes. There was nothing negative I noticed If I am being honest.
- In a week, we used to have three-day classes, and classes would be of 1 hour each, and there would be 3 classes in a day. There were 60 students in my class. Out of 60, there were 16 students from India.
Admission Experience
- I applied to Bournemouth and Oxford Brookes universities. I got an offer letter from both universities.
- I applied to two universities:
- Bournemouth University
- Oxford Brookes University
- I have confirmed admission letters from both Bournemouth University and Oxford Brookes University.
- After careful consideration, I chose Bournemouth University instead of Oxford Brookes University. The main reason behind choosing Bournemouth was the placement year fees, which were 800 compared to 2000 in oxford Brookes University. And in Bournemouth, there were many hotels for my exposures i could part-time job there in my industry.
- I chose Bournemouth University over Oxford Brookes after careful consideration of some important points. 1. Cheaper placement year fees in Bournemouth, it was £ 800 compared to 2000 in Oxford Brookes University, and strong industry experience in hotels, as Bournemouth is a famous town and there was lot of hotels for my placement year opportunities. 2 . Cost of living was cheaper in Bournemouth compared to Oxford, as Oxford is one of the most expensive towns for renting a student accommodation in uk. 3 . Another reason was that Bournemouth is a famous beach destination all over the UK, and I love beaches, so I chose Bournemouth over Oxford for my master's.
- The admission process was very simple; you just had to create an account on the university website and submit your bachelor's degree marks and your IELTS score. The English requirement was 6 bands. For hospitality courses
- My admission process was very simple. I didn’t take any help from the agent; I did my process by myself. Everything was on the university website after they verified your marksheet and IELTS marks. They asked me to submit 2000 £ university fees. The remaining fees were to settle letter when I reached uk.
- I applied in September intake. As it is the primary intake in most of the UK universities, and my course had more seats in the September intake compared to the January intake, I applied in September.
- I started my admission process in May 2021. I submitted all my degree marksheet and degree online on the university website, and my IELTS score as well. After that, I got the conditional offer letter. Then I submitted 2000£ fees as an advanced deposit, then the university provided me Cos letter, which is necessary for applying uk visa.
Faculty
- In my class, there were 60 students, which was a balanced learning environment because it allowed both individual and group faculty was approachable, which made it easier for us to ask our doubts to them. They would respond to every question.
- The teaching methodology in my class was mis of theoretical and practical approach my class faculty always used to discuss about real world case studies. We used to have presentations as well that helped us a lot.
- Yes, this was a very good thing about my professor, they helped a lot to find jobs for our placement through there refrence. I even got my placement through my professor in a nice hotel in London.
- I particularly admire our hotel operation faculty; they have real hospitality experience as they used to be general managers in hotels before joining the university. He helped me to get my placement. What made him stand out was his ability to connect theory with real life scenario and help the students in every part of the course
Campus Life
- My university regularly organised events, cultural festivals, and networking events on campus. We had a gym in our university and a football ground as well. My university had tao campus talbot which was the main canpus and there was a second one was lansdowne campus, which was mostly for business studies.
- We used to have freshers weeks, there was lot of students' union events, and also a career and job fair used to be organised by the university
Part Time Jobs
- On campus jobs were very limited, like library assistant and waiter in coffe shop on campus were available but very limited. Usually, hourly wages were given as the national minimum wage, which was 12.84£ per hour
- During term time student can work 20 hours a week, and during break like summer and winter student can work 40 hours a week.
- It's very difficult to get a job in university campus as there are very limited job opportunities available on campus. Mostly indian students work in restaurants and fast food chains like KFC, Burger King. They earn around 1000 pounds a month.
- Off campus is not that difficult for student they just have to do some visits in each cafe, give their resume, and they typically get called within a week. So, part-time was easy to get off campus in Bournemouth. First process is, you need to visit the store and restaurant, take a resume with you, and you have to ask them if they are hiring.
- After that, you need to give them your Ni numberas well bank details if you get a call for the interview and get selected, because it's illegal to work without NI. You cannot work for cash in the UK. Salary would be credited to your bank account.
Placement
- Mostly 99.% get a job just finishing their degree as the hospitality market always has vacancies available, so when you get a degree, you can take help from a professor, or you can just walk into any hotel with a resume, they mostly offer jobs. Because there is a high demand for hospitality students.
- Average salary yearly 30000£ in hospitality degree. Mostly, students get jobs in my university through reference, networking, as well as many hotel visits to my university for campus hiring, and also professors help the students to get jobs. My batchmates are working in Hilton, Marriott, IHG, Hyatt, and in big cities like london manchester. Hilton is a major company they come for placement in my university.
Accommodation
- My brother's friend helped me to find accommodation. As he was studying at the same university, he came here one year before me.
- I was paying 600£ monly with all bills included. I have a private washroom. With share kitchen
- As my brother friend helped me, I have not encountered any difficulties.
- You use Facebook Marketplace or zoopla and Amberstudent online applications for searching accommodation. It was 4 miles from my university campus.
Exams
- For my hospitality course, they asked for a bachelor's degree with 60% and IELTS 6 band not minimum of 5.5 in any module. They just asked for a statement of purpose, my bachelor's degree marksheet, and my IELTS certificate. They don't require a CV for my hospitality course.
- For Hospitality courses, they don’t require any interview for admission. It's just that if you have work experience, the university processes your application faster than a normal application.
Fees
- My full university fees was 14000 £
- I paid 2000 before the admission remaining fees were paid in two parts between the semesters.
- For Accommodation I used to pay 600 £ for a double bedroom with an attached washroom. It was a private accommodation which was situated at the center of Bournemouth town center
- My monthly expenses were 600 £ room rent
- 150 £ grocery
- 20 £ phone recharge
- 60£ for transportation
- 100£ other
Scholarship
- I didn’t get any scholarship. Usually, you need to score above 7 bands in IELTS or 75 % in your bachelor's degree to get a scholarship. The scholarship amount was 3500£.
- In my batch, there were a few students who received this amount. I don't have a rough figure, but it depends on your marks. There is no limit for this scholarship; for example, even if 1000 students scored 75%, they will be eligible for scholarships.
