AU DPF FAQs
Ques. Is it mandatory to have completed the Certificate of Proficiency in French (CPF) before applying for the Diploma of Proficiency in French (DPF) at Assam University?
Ans. Yes, the eligibility criteria for the Diploma of Proficiency in French at Assam University requires candidates to have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) AND completed the 1-year Certificate of Proficiency in French. Students who have not completed the CPF are not eligible to apply directly for the DPF.
Ques. What is the difference between the Certificate of Proficiency in French, the Diploma of Proficiency in French, and the Advanced Diploma in French at Assam University?
Ans. These are three sequential levels of French language study at Assam University. The Certificate of Proficiency in French (CPF) is the entry-level 1-year course requiring only 10+2 qualification. The Diploma of Proficiency in French (DPF) is the second level, requiring CPF completion. The Advanced Diploma in French is the third level, requiring completion of the DPF. Each level builds progressively on the previous one in terms of language proficiency.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the Diploma of Proficiency in French?
Ans. After completing the DPF, students can work as French language translators, interpreters, or teachers. They can also apply for positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies in French-speaking countries, tourism companies, airlines, and multinational corporations with French operations. The diploma also serves as a stepping stone for pursuing a BA or MA in French, or for appearing in internationally recognised exams like DELF B1/B2.
Ques. Can students from science or commerce backgrounds apply for this course?
Ans. Yes, the Diploma of Proficiency in French is open to students from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) as long as they have passed 10+2 and completed the Certificate of Proficiency in French. There is no stream-specific restriction for this language course.
Ques. Is the Diploma of Proficiency in French recognised for government job applications or competitive exams?
Ans. The diploma from Assam University (a central university) is a recognised qualification. Knowledge of French is an advantage in UPSC Civil Services (for optional subject or language proficiency), SSC, and various central government jobs that require language skills. However, for most competitive exams, the diploma serves as a supporting qualification rather than a primary eligibility criterion.
Ques. How many seats are available and is the admission process competitive?
Ans. The Diploma of Proficiency in French at Assam University has an intake of 18 seats. Since the course is a continuation of the CPF programme and the pool of eligible candidates (those who have completed CPF) is relatively small, admission is generally not highly competitive. However, students are advised to apply early and check the official merit list once published.
