Ques. Is IGNOU PhD in Anthropology a distance learning programme?
Ans. No, IGNOU PhD (Anthropology) is NOT a distance learning programme. While IGNOU is primarily an open university, its PhD programmes are conducted in regular mode. Both Part Time and Full Time PhD students must physically attend the 6-month coursework at IGNOU's main campus in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, with a mandatory 80% attendance requirement. After the coursework phase, research work can be carried out with periodic visits to the supervisor.
Ques. Can a working professional apply for IGNOU PhD Anthropology?
Ans. Yes, working professionals can apply under the Part Time category. However, they must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer in the prescribed format, which is mandatory for attending the interview. The NOC must confirm that the employer has no objection to the candidate pursuing a Part Time PhD and that official duties will permit sufficient time for research.
Ques. Is UGC NET mandatory for IGNOU PhD Anthropology admission? Is there any other way to get admission?
Ans. Yes, a valid UGC NET score is mandatory for admission to IGNOU PhD Anthropology. IGNOU does not conduct its own entrance exam for PhD admission. Candidates must have a valid UGC NET score from June 2024 session onwards. UGC NET with JRF (Category A) candidates are directly called for interview, while UGC NET without JRF (Category B) candidates are shortlisted based on their NET score.
