TISS Mumbai MA: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

The fee structure of MA in Urban Policy and Governance under the School of Habitat Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai was 72,000 of 2 years. The course was a multidisciplinary course with a specific focus on urban. It included in depth research and field work. The course was based on practical learning and for that reason, students had to go to different places. The course fee of 72,000 was for general category and ews students but for OBC students, it was 36,000 only and for SC, ST and PWD category students, it was free. There were many scholarships available from the side of Government apart from that scholarships from TATA TRUST, Infyosys, etc were also available. The college assures that no children leave behind due to financial restrains. The course has broaden its scope by starting a dual degree in Global Urban Development with Sciences Po University of France. The number of students has also increased.

Total course fee is 1.6 lakhs. I belong to general category, hence there wasn't any fee concession for me. For getting there is allotment based on financial situation of the students. If we don't get hostel there are many pgs and flats, which can be pretty expensive (mostly without food).

As for now I have 51000 for the first semester tution fee in which 10000 is refundable at the end of 2 years of course, from 2nd semester onwards the fees will decrease to around 45k for semester. I have paid 38000 for a semester accommodation at TISS(18000 for accomodation and 20000 for Dining hall fees) 20000 for DH is not finalized if your account remians then it will be adjusted to next sem, Mumbai which is very fair looking at rent you have to pay if you stay outside campus.

Total Tution fees for the whole 2 yr course is 145000 which includes the 10000 refundable deposit Sem 1 - 51500 Sem 2 - 27500 Sem 3 - 39000 Sem 4 - 27000 Other than this, Fieldwork fees and expenses should be borne by students It might increase a bit next year.

With personel interview at instiutte level based on their circumstances, it can be availed and at the even semester. Scholarships are available at the institute level and Governmnet scholarships, too. A bridge scholarship is also available. Each scholarship can be supported from specific categories other than General.

TISS makes sure that no student is rejected due to her/his financial condition. There are numerous scholarships and financial assistance given for the same. TISS, being a pioneer in HR, excels in placements as well as attracting all the major MNCs for the summer and final placement. The median package of the batch is around 20 lakhs making it an institute with an unmatched ROI.

The course is amazing. It is well developed and organized, faculties are well-informed and educated. We have field work every week where we are placed in certain organizations for our exposure which give in depth knowledge and experience as well in the field.

I didn't get any scholarship. It was funded by parents for me. I come from a privileged background and I am aware of it, so I didn't exploit it by snatching someone's only chance to fund their higher education.

In terms of course curriculum, they focus on providing experience learning to us. Rather than by hearting concepts and writing exams, they give lots of assignments which require practical applications. Facilities were more like friends to us who provide experienced knowledge and support throughout.
