Ques. Is the MA (Parangat in Indology) degree from TMV equivalent to a regular MA degree? Is it recognised for government jobs and higher studies?
Ans. Yes. The term "Parangat" is a traditional designation used by TMV for its postgraduate programmes. The MA (Parangat in Indology) from TMV is a UGC-recognised postgraduate degree, fully equivalent to a regular MA degree. It is recognised for government jobs, competitive examinations, SET/NET eligibility for teaching positions, and Ph.D. admissions at TMV and other recognised universities.
Ques. Can a student from a non-Indology background (e.g., B.Com, B.Sc, BA in other subjects) apply for this course?
Ans. Yes. The eligibility criterion states that any graduate in any faculty from a recognised university is eligible to apply. There is no mandatory requirement of having studied Indology or Sanskrit at the undergraduate level. Ques. What is the difference between MA (Parangat in Indology) and MA (Sanskrit Parangat) at TMV?
Ans. Both programmes are offered by the Shri Balmukund Lohia Centre at TMV. MA (Sanskrit Parangat) focuses specifically on Sanskrit language, literature, grammar, and philosophy, while MA (Parangat in Indology) takes a broader interdisciplinary approach covering Indian civilisation, culture, Vedic studies, Prakrit literature, epigraphy, and ancient knowledge systems. Students interested in Sanskrit language and literature should opt for MA Sanskrit Parangat, while those interested in the broader study of Indian civilisation should opt for MA Parangat in Indology.
Ques. Is there a Research Project component in the MA (Parangat in Indology) programme? How is it evaluated?
Ans. Yes. A Research Project is available as an optional component in Semesters III and IV. Students who opt for the Research Project must submit a research report, which is subject to plagiarism checking (fee: Rs. 500, paid separately). The project is evaluated internally and externally. Students who do not opt for the Research Project can choose alternative elective subjects instead. The Research Project is recommended for students planning to pursue Ph.D. or academic careers.
