MUJ M.Tech VLSI FAQs
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for admission to M.Tech VLSI & Embedded System Design at MUJ Jaipur?
Ans. No, GATE is not mandatory for admission. MUJ accepts students based on their B.Tech/BE academic performance followed by a personal interview. However, GATE-qualified candidates are given priority in admissions and are also eligible for a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 through the Directorate of Research, making it highly beneficial to have a GATE score.
Ques. What is the actual total fee I will pay for the entire M.Tech program at MUJ?
Ans. The total tuition fee for the 2-year program is Rs. 3,62,000 (Rs. 1,81,000 per year). At the time of admission (Year 1), you pay Rs. 2,06,000 which includes tuition (Rs. 1,81,000), registration fee (Rs. 10,000), and caution deposit (Rs. 15,000). In Year 2, you pay Rs. 1,81,000 as tuition. The caution deposit of Rs. 15,000 is refunded on program completion. Hostel fees are separate and optional.
Ques. What kind of placements can I expect after M.Tech VLSI from MUJ? Are there core VLSI companies that recruit?
Ans. The ECE department at MUJ has seen placements at companies like Secure Meters, Deloitte, Ericsson, Wabtec, Tech Mahindra, Suzuki, Infosys, Capgemini, and Celebal Technology. While some of these are IT/software roles, the VLSI specialization prepares students for hardware design, FPGA development, and embedded systems roles. Core VLSI companies do visit for niche roles, but students should also be prepared for broader electronics and software opportunities.
Ques. What is the difference between M.Tech VLSI at MUJ and the B.Tech Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology) also offered at MUJ?
Ans. The B.Tech Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design & Technology) is a 4-year undergraduate program that provides foundational knowledge in VLSI and electronics. The M.Tech VLSI & Embedded System Design is a 2-year postgraduate program that goes deeper into advanced topics like VLSI Physical Design & Automation, Analog CMOS IC Design, ASIC design, and includes a full dissertation in Semesters 3 and 4. The M.Tech is suited for those who want to specialize further or pursue research in VLSI.
Ques. Can I pursue a Ph.D. after completing M.Tech VLSI from MUJ?
Ans. Yes, MUJ offers a Ph.D. program and M.Tech graduates are eligible to apply. MUJ also provides the Dr. Ramdas Pai Scholarship for full-time Ph.D. scholars, offering a stipend of Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 45,000 per month for up to 3 years. Additionally, MUJ supports scholars to attend and present at Scopus/WoS-indexed conferences with up to Rs. 30,000 in financial support.
Ques. What tools and software are used in the M.Tech VLSI program at MUJ?
Ans. The curriculum involves industry-standard EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools used for VLSI design, simulation, and verification. Students work with tools for digital system design using Verilog, FPGA-based system design, IC design, and embedded system development. The department has well-equipped laboratories with demonstration boards and advanced VLSI tools, as highlighted by alumni who have gone on to work in semiconductor and hardware design roles.
