SRMIST DM Cardiology FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between MD and DM in Cardiology?
Ans. MD (Doctor of Medicine) in General Medicine is a 3-year broad specialty program providing general medical training. DM (Doctorate of Medicine) in Cardiology is a 3-year super-specialty program requiring MD or DNB in General Medicine or Pediatrics as prerequisite. DM Cardiology provides specialized, in-depth training exclusively in cardiac care, interventional procedures, and advanced cardiac management, making it significantly more specialized than MD.
Ques. Is NEET-SS mandatory for DM Cardiology admission at SRMIST?
Ans. Yes, NEET-SS qualification is mandatory for admission to DM Cardiology at SRMIST. Candidates must appear for NEET-SS, qualify the examination, and obtain an appropriate rank to be eligible for counselling and seat allotment through the MCC process. There is no alternative pathway for admission to this program.
Ques. Can I apply for DM Cardiology if I have completed my MD in Pediatrics?
Ans. Yes, candidates with MD or DNB in Pediatrics are eligible to apply for DM Cardiology. The eligibility criteria specifically mention MD/DNB in General Medicine or Pediatrics. However, ensure that you meet all other requirements including the 55% aggregate score in postgraduate studies and completion of your MD/DNB by the specified cut-off date of January 31, 2026.
Ques. What is the total cost of DM Cardiology at SRMIST including hostel?
Ans. The total tuition and registration fees for the 3-year program are INR 24,10,000. If you opt for hostel accommodation, additional costs are INR 2,75,000 per year for boys (total INR 8,25,000 for 3 years) or INR 2,30,000 per year for girls (total INR 6,90,000 for 3 years). Therefore, the total cost including hostel ranges from INR 31,00,000 to INR 33,35,000 for the entire program.
Ques. What happens if I withdraw from the DM Cardiology program after admission?
Ans. According to SRMIST's refund policy, if you withdraw after the MCC cut-off date or during mid-term, the entire remaining course fee for the remaining years must be remitted, and no refund of fees already paid will be provided. If you upgrade your seat or surrender it to MCC within specified timelines, only the registration fee (INR 10,000) will be deducted from your paid fees. It is crucial to carefully consider your commitment before confirming admission.
Ques. Are there opportunities for sub-specialization or fellowship after DM Cardiology?
Ans. Yes, after completing DM Cardiology, graduates can pursue additional fellowships in sub-specialties such as Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, or Echocardiography. These fellowships typically last 1-2 years and provide advanced training in specific areas of cardiology. SRMIST's state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory and experienced faculty provide excellent opportunities for such advanced training and research.
