BHU D.Sc Admission 2026
The D.Sc. admission process at BHU is application-based and does not involve any entrance examination. Candidates submit their application to the Controller of Examinations along with their published work, bio-data, and supporting documents. The Faculty Research Committee (FRC) scrutinises applications and recommends eligible candidates for admission. The process is open throughout the year with a fixed annual deadline of July 31.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Must hold a PhD or equivalent degree from BHU (at least 4 years prior to application) OR a PhD from any recognised/foreign university with a Master's/Bachelor's degree from BHU (at least 4 years prior to application) OR be a permanent teacher of BHU with at least 4 years of service and a PhD degree.
- Must have pursued outstanding research in the concerned discipline with a substantial body of published work from the last 5 years.
- At least two of the published works must be solely authored by the candidate.
- The work must be original, scholarly, and must make a distinct contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the concerned discipline.
Admission Process:
- Submit application to the Controller of Examinations, BHU, by July 31 of the academic year.
- Application must include: bio-data, title of thesis, a 1000-word account of recent research, list of publications, attested copies of certificates, and recommendation certificates from two Academic Council members or D.Sc./D.Litt. graduates of BHU.
- The Faculty Research Committee (FRC) scrutinises the application and recommends eligible candidates.
- On recommendation, the Registrar (Academic) issues the admission letter.
- Candidate pays the prescribed fee and registers in the concerned department within one month.
- Candidate delivers a pre-submission seminar in the department before submitting the thesis.
- Thesis (5 hardbound copies + soft copy of extended abstract) is submitted within 1 year of admission.
- Thesis is evaluated by two external examiners (one from India outside Varanasi, one from abroad).
- If all examiners recommend acceptance, the Research Degree Committee approves the award of the degree.
