Banaras Hindu University (BHU) offers a 2-year full-time Master of Science [M.Sc] in Forensic Sciences at its main campus in Varanasi. This is a multidisciplinary programme that integrates chemistry, biology, physics, and law to train students in forensic investigation techniques. The curriculum covers forensic chemistry, forensic biology, toxicology, questioned document examination, fingerprint analysis, ballistics, digital forensics, and crime scene investigation. The programme spans 4 semesters and accommodates 40 students per year. Unlike most other BHU PG programmes, M.Sc Forensic Sciences is a self-financed (special category) course with a tuition fee of Rs. 42,000 per semester, totalling Rs. 1,68,000 for the 2-year duration, due to the high cost of forensic laboratory equipment and consumables. Admission is based on CUET-PG scores, and the course is offered in full-time on-campus mode.

Admissions for the 2026-27 academic session are expected to open after CUET-PG 2026 results (tentatively May 2026), with BHU's Combined Allotment Programme for PG (CAP-PG 2026) registration likely to begin in May-June 2026. The CUET-PG 2026 exam was conducted from March 6 to March 27, 2026, and results are expected by May 6, 2026. This is one of the most competitive M.Sc programmes at BHU; the 2024 CUET-PG cutoff for General category was 220 (Round 1), among the highest across all BHU PG programmes.

Key Points

  • M.Sc Forensic Sciences at BHU is a self-financed (special category) programme with higher fees (Rs. 42,000/semester) compared to regular BHU PG courses, due to the cost of forensic laboratory equipment.
  • The programme mandates a one-month internship in the final semester, which students must arrange independently at NFSLs, police forensic labs, or other forensic institutions.
  • With a CUET-PG 2024 cutoff of 220 (General, Round 1), this is one of the most competitive M.Sc programmes at BHU.
  • The multidisciplinary nature of the programme opens career opportunities in forensic labs, law enforcement agencies (CBI, police), and research institutions.
  • BHU has been designated as an Institution of Eminence (IoE) by the Government of India, receiving a grant of Rs. 1,000 crore for academic and research excellence.
  • Education loans are easily available for students admitted to BHU as a central university, making the higher fee manageable.

BHU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 3 Reviews

The course offers a manageable entrance exam for those who prepare thoroughly with the recommended resources. Students appreciate the faculty for their politeness and dedication, providing detailed class notes and personalized attention. The institute is one of the most affordable in India, with a combined academic and hostel fee of only 3000 INR per semester, making it accessible to a wide range of students. While the college offers internships, they are not part of the curriculum, requiring students to secure their own opportunities, especially during summer and winter breaks.

Although some departments like statistics, chemistry, and environmental science have good placement prospects, MSc in Forensic Science students can find roles in NFSLs and laboratories. The university mandates a one-month internship in the final semester, but students must independently arrange it. Scholarships like INSPIRE, DBT, and DST are available, particularly for needy and reserved categories, and Kerala students can apply for the egratz scholarship. The Master's in Forensic Science program at Banaras Hindu University has a course fee of approximately 40,000 INR per semester due to lab costs, with additional hostel and mess fees.

Fees and Financial Aid:

For doing masters in forensic science in banaras hindu university our course fee is 40000 per semester.Compare to other courses our fee is really high because forensic science is comes under special course category. And for forensic science we need more lab works and all, the lab equipment cost high price. These are the reasons our fee is this much high.other than course fee we have hostel fee and mess fee. The hostel fees varies based on the hostel and it's facilities. Mine is 10000 compare to other hostel my fees was high because my hostel have well facilities. per semester and my mess fee is 3400 per month. If we take mess off we get reduction in the mess fee.For kerala students there is no special scholarship except egratz, but egratz take too much time for there procedures and I also applied for egratz in my 1st year now I'm last semester and I didn't get the money. Then another option is education loan. we get education loan easily if we got admission in any cenral university withgoodmark
