NIFT PhD Fees

NIFT PhD fees vary based on the mode of study and category of scholar. Self-financed and sponsored full-time scholars pay Rs. 1,11,900 per year in recurring fees plus a one-time payment of Rs. 21,300 (security deposit + registration fee), totalling Rs. 1,33,200 in the first year. NIFT Teaching Fellows pay only Rs. 18,900 per year in recurring fees plus the same one-time charges. Part-time scholars pay Rs. 98,900 per year in recurring fees plus Rs. 21,300 one-time, totalling Rs. 1,20,200 in the first year. The security deposit of Rs. 12,000 is refundable.

NIFT PhD Admission 2026

NIFT PhD admissions are conducted through a two-stage process: a written entrance examination followed by a Research Proposal Presentation and Interview (RPPI). Eligibility Criteria

Master's degree in a relevant area of Design, Management, or Technology with CGPA of 6.0/10 (5.5 for SC/ST) or 55% marks (50% for SC/ST); no work experience required.
Master's degree in a non-relevant discipline with the above CGPA/marks AND 10 years of professional experience in the proposed research area.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant area with CGPA of 8.0/10 or 75% marks AND 10 years of professional experience.

Admission Process

Register on the NTA/NIFT portal and fill the application form with a detailed research proposal (in prescribed format).
Obtain consent of a NIFT PhD supervisor before submission (Research Proposal Format 1 and Supervisor Consent Format 2 required).
Pay the application fee online.

NIFT PhD Scholarships 2026

Ques. Is NIFT Delhi the only campus offering the PhD programme?

Ans. Yes. The NIFT PhD programme is offered exclusively through the NIFT Head Office in New Delhi (Hauz Khas). Candidates from across India and abroad must apply to and attend the New Delhi campus for their doctoral research.

Ques. Can I pursue the NIFT PhD while working full-time?

Ans. Yes. NIFT offers a Part-Time PhD option specifically for working professionals. The part-time programme allows thesis submission within 6 years (extendable to 7 years). Candidates must, however, be able to attend NIFT Delhi for coursework, seminars, and interactions with their supervisor as required.
