SKDU M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) FAQs
Q1. Is the M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) at SKDU approved by RCI? Is the degree valid for government jobs?
Ans. Yes, the M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) programme at SKDU is approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Graduates are eligible to register with RCI as Special Educators (Intellectual Disability), which is a mandatory requirement for working in government schools, rehabilitation centres, and NGOs under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. The degree is valid for government jobs requiring RCI-registered Special Educators.
Q2. What is the difference between M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) and the integrated B.Ed-M.Ed (Intellectual Disability) at SKDU?
Ans. The M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) is a standalone 2-year postgraduate programme for candidates who have already completed B.Ed (Special Education). The integrated B.Ed-M.Ed (Intellectual Disability) is a 3-year programme that combines both degrees and is suitable for candidates who want to complete both qualifications in a shorter time. Both programmes are RCI-approved. If you already hold a B.Ed (Special Education), the standalone M.Ed is the appropriate choice.
Q3. What are the career opportunities after M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) from SKDU?
Ans. Graduates can work as Special Educators in inclusive and special schools, Rehabilitation Professionals in government and private rehabilitation centres, Counsellors and Therapists in NGOs working with persons with intellectual disabilities, Researchers and Faculty in special education institutions, and as Consultants for government programmes under the RPwD Act. They can also appear for state-level special education teacher recruitment exams and work with organisations like NIEPID, NIMH, and various state disability welfare departments.
Q4. What is the seat intake for M.Ed (Special Education) (Intellectual Disability) at SKDU? Is it difficult to get admission?
