SKDU M.Phil. (Clinical Psychology) FAQs
Ques. Is SKDU's M.Phil. Clinical Psychology recognised by RCI? What does RCI recognition mean?
Ans. Yes, SKDU is an RCI-approved institution for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology, with approval valid from 2022-23 to 2026-27. RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) is the statutory body that regulates clinical psychology practice in India. Upon successful completion of an RCI-approved M.Phil. Clinical Psychology programme, graduates receive a CRR (Central Rehabilitation Register) number, which is the mandatory licence to practice as a clinical psychologist in India. Without RCI recognition, the degree does not qualify the holder to work as a licensed clinical psychologist.
Ques. How many seats are available for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology at SKDU?
Ans. SKDU has an RCI-approved intake of 12 seats per batch for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology. Given the limited seats and the high demand for RCI-approved programmes, the selection process is competitive. Candidates are advised to apply early and prepare thoroughly for the entrance test and interview.
Ques. Is there a stipend or fellowship available for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology students at SKDU?
Ans. Unlike PhD programmes, M.Phil. Clinical Psychology does not typically come with a national fellowship or stipend. However, SKDU's own scholarship schemes (SKDU-NEST, merit-based, social responsibility) are applicable on the tuition fee. Candidates from economically weaker sections may also apply for the NSP (PM-USP Yojana) scholarship. There is no ICMR or UGC fellowship specifically for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology.
Ques. What is the career scope after completing M.Phil. Clinical Psychology from SKDU?
Ans. After completing M.Phil. Clinical Psychology from an RCI-approved institution like SKDU, graduates can work as licensed clinical psychologists in government and private hospitals, psychiatric centres, rehabilitation centres, NGOs, schools, and corporate wellness programmes. They can also pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology or related fields. The demand for clinical psychologists in India is growing rapidly, especially post-COVID, with increased awareness of mental health.
Ques. Can a candidate with an M.Sc. in Psychology (not Clinical Psychology) apply for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology at SKDU?
Ans. Yes, candidates with an M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology (general) are eligible to apply for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology at SKDU, provided they meet the minimum marks requirement of 55% in their postgraduate degree. RCI guidelines generally require a PG degree in Psychology or a related mental health discipline. Candidates are advised to confirm eligibility directly with the SKDU admissions office before applying.
Ques. What is the difference between M.Phil. Clinical Psychology and Ph.D. Psychology at SKDU?
Ans. M.Phil. Clinical Psychology is a 2-year professional programme regulated by RCI that trains students in clinical assessment, psychotherapy, and mental health intervention. It leads to RCI registration and the right to practice as a clinical psychologist. Ph.D. Psychology, on the other hand, is a 3-year research-focused doctoral programme regulated by UGC, aimed at producing academic researchers and scholars. The M.Phil. is more practice-oriented, while the PhD is research-oriented. Both are offered at SKDU, but they serve different career goals.
