What Students Say
Likes
- I like the campus and infrastructure. I like how the professors are open to helping the students outside of class. There are events and activities around the year and there are abundant part-time opportunities on campus for the students.
Dislikes
- What I don’t like is the fact that my course seems just like a revision of my bachelor’s course in AI. I expected it to be more advanced.
I chose UCB because it is one of the top-ranked colleges in the US for Data Science and the campus is really beautiful. Apart from this, I had friends here who helped me make this decision by telling me about their experience at UCB. They also made it easier for me to find accommodation and a part-time job. The commute was easy as well as the college ID serves as a transit pass and students can travel anywhere in the city using it. Also free Bicycle pass.
Course Curriculum
I’m personally confused if my undergrad course was too great or my current course could have been better but, I feel like I am just revisiting all the topics I learnt in my undergrad. Not everyone feels the same as people come from different backgrounds.the curriculum provides everyone with the essential knowledge through the core courses and lets them further explore the areas of their interests through electives. However, there could be more industrial exposure and research.
Faculty
The student-to-faculty ratio is 18:1. The professors are really knowledgeable and there’s so much to learn from them. They are friendly and helpful. The best faculties I had include Amy Gates and Abel Iyaselle who are detail-oriented and encourage the students to take up research projects or projects that really help them understand the subject better.
Campus Life
I love the campus life here. The campus itself is very beautiful, located close to the Rocky Mountains. The infrastructure is great. The buildings have been for years and they keep building new ones, renovating the old ones. The university has 4 campuses throughout the US. It has the most facilities a great University would have. It has sports events throughout the year, there are buffalo nights, parties in the connection, several volunteer events to help the community, and events and workshops that help grow personally and professionally. My favourite is the guided painting workshop that happens every month. It has a rec centre and health care centre. The on-campus accommodation is good with good fixit services.
Placement
The University does not do placements. It does have career fairs where a lot of companies visit and interact with the students. Ultimately it depends on how well the student networks and the number of jobs they apply for. The university does offer help to create a perfect resumes and offer many opportunities to grow professionally through workshops and seminars. For international students, the job market is still difficult, yet my seniors could pack some really nice jobs with an average of $100k per annum.
Accommodation
When I stayed Off campus a 2-bedroom, 1.75 bath cost $2100 per month. Currently, I am staying on campus and it costs $1660 per month. However, off campus can also cost much more depending on the area and apartment.
Exams
- My university does not need GRE. The requirements are a minimum IELTS score of 6 and a minimum GPA of 3 out of 4. My IELTS score was 7.5 and had a GPA equivalent to 3.75/4. - ICSE : 93.33%; 12th : 96%; Amrita VishwaVidyapeetham- B.tech Artificial Intelligence 83.4% - Requirements: Yes, I had to submit an SOP and 3 LORS. There are no interviews. SOP should include why you want to join this University and why that course. Also, mention what experience or skills you have in that field. Write about your expectations from this course and how it would help you with your goals.
Fees
My tuition fee is around $50K
