Reason for choosing my college
I have heard good feedback from my seniors regarding the Computer science curriculum at CSU. Also it’s in Chicago, which would give me exposure to good opportunities. Being a state university, the environment is very friendly and cooperative which helped me to learn a lot.

As my undergrad is in electronics, I was applying for a Master's in Computer science. That might be the main reason for not getting accepted. In terms of academics, there was no problem.

Tips to enhance your application
Be specific and express your interest on what exactly motivated you to choose CSU over other universities. Don't copy large essay which would mislead the main intention, be specific on your intentions and your next plans in Masters.
Admission Experience
The United States is a land of opportunities in the field of Computer science and technology. Chicago State University has a good reputation for computer science in Masters Professors and staff are very friendly and cooperative.
Class Schedule
- You can choose courses for the semester; most likely, everyone would choose classes for 2 days in a week. Timings would be anywhere between 9 AM to 4 PM.
- Class strength would be around 25 to 30. Most likely 70% of students are Indians.
Faculty
Prabhakar Rao Achanta is an exceptional Professor; he teaches a lot of Practical and real-world stuff rather than theoretical knowledge. Faculties would guide us on references for any full-time jobs after graduation.
Campus Life
- All the blocks are located in a single place.
- Sports, Library, Cafeteria and Initial Orientation are available.
- There are some events dedicated to International Students as well. The graduation ceremony and honours ceremony is also available.
Part Time Jobs
- Most people prefer to work on campus, so you need to be proactive and reach out to different departments to be able to secure Jobs. Also look out for any opportunities sent to your university mail would also help.
- Typical pay is around 15$ per hour.
- There is a good number of jobs available in the Library, admissions, and IT departments.
- You are allowed to work 20 Hrs per week.
- TA and RA roles are also available typically after your first semester.
Placement
- Chicago has a good number of big software companies. Also, a good number of companies would visit the university. Being proactive and upgrading skills should make you land a job easily.
- Avg salary would range from 80k to 120k
Accommodation
- Most of the students either live near downtown or use public transit to go to school. Students with cars live in the suburbs and travel to school by car.
- Chicago has very good public transit, so renting anywhere near downtown would be around 40 minutes of travel by bus. Try to avoid renting near the campus.
