Part Time Jobs
-
Students mostly prefer working outside as its tough to get job On-Campus but talking about legal way its not allowed to work outside for 1st semester that gives a student window to apply for jobs on-campus but needs to do really hard work to get the one. Working outside usually offer minimum work wages then on- campus job.
-
Minimum is 16 to 20 dollars max. Its difficult because so much competition. Its the amount of efforts you take, having good academic gave me privilege, talking to professor asking for any opportunity if they have as Researchers Assistance , knocking different departments in college to know if they have any opening, dropping a copy of your resume and applying for the jobs on Handshake portal will help a student to get one. Usually they apply using Handshake, dropping resume to department was my method to boost my chances of getting call.
Describe the steps involved, such as searching for job openings, submitting applications or resumes, attending interviews, and any other relevant procedures that students should follow. -
They must make profile on Handshake and keep short one page resume while applying for On- Campus job depending on the type of jobs you are applying to. Preparing a short introduction about you in such a way that the person willing look into your resume. Reaching out ones you have applied to the Recruiter to hear back from them.
-
Pay range is between $16 to $20 and are allowed to work only 20 hours a week . It was difficult because of competition, you have to knock department to department and meet them in-person to ask them if they have any opportunities. Here they have app called Handshake to use which university and college post jobs on. So make profile on Handshake and apply for the job there along with visiting all departments in college to see if anyone has the opening because sometimes the department does not post the job on Handshake and hire internally.
Placement
-
70% does get the job within 6 months because if your OPT date start then you would only have 90 days to get the job that too the company must be willing to Sponsor you.
-
They dropped many cold emails to many of recruiter. Apply for 100 + company on daily bases if you want to secure an interview.
-
Try to make connections because u will get the call only if you have references in any company. so try to make connection and networking is key here to get the job here .
Accommodation
-
I followed Facebook pages and googled apartments near college then try to contact the person who lives near by or talking to senior students helps a lot .
-
Monthly rents depends on the type of amenities once choice to live : Studio apartments are 1500 per month excluding amenities , for 1 bedroom range is between 1800 to 2200.
-
Recommendation is try to find near to college and for a while accommodate more number of friends in single apartment if you want that to make budget friendly.
Exams
- IELTS, GRE ;
- Documents needed: Statement Of Purpose: It influence the decision more so be best at it, LOR(maximum 4 minimum 3) ,
CV - good to have working experience that adds perks to your application then any other candidate - No interview was conducted in application process, just apply on Cal State Apply to make your profile and upload documents there and submit application for each college, Cal state will send your application to each college you applied to
