I applied to 5 colleges for the Masters in Business analytics program 1) University of Texas at Austin 2) Carnegie Mellon University 3) University of California San Diego 4) University of California Davis 5) University of Washington I got an admit letter from all these universities; The reason I think I got into all colleges I applied was I had work experience in business analytics and gave all the necessary and unnecessary competitive exams so that my profile stood out I selected University of Texas at Austin as the Masters in Business Analytics program here is more tech oriented when compared to all the universities I got into and the program was started a dozen years ago which when compared to colleges like CMU which started their MSBA program 2 years ago gives an edge to UT Austin. I applied to six colleges which are Georgia Tech, UT Austin, UW Madison, Texas A&M, SUNY Buffalo, and Northeastern University. I was admitted to all except Georgia Tech, where I was rejected. My GPA is low and I heard from peers that Georgia Tech accepts applicants with GPA more that 9. One more reason might be I have less work experience and that might have effected my admission. One thing that influenced me to choose UT Austin is its reputation. It is much better than the other colleges that I accepted into. And one more reason is its Tuition fee is bearable and UT waives entire tuition fee if one is able to secure a TA position. The admission process is simple you need to submit SOP, 3 LORs, Resume and an application form and need to pay application fee. Once you have submitted your application you need to wait for their decision. For few streams GRE is optional and for some its mandatory with a cutoff of (315). For MBA one has to take GMAT. I applied to two universities and was planning to apply to one UT Austin: Applied and shortlisted UMN Carlson, Minnesota Applied and shortlisted Anderson school of management, UCLA Was planning to but did not apply because got admitted to my dream school. No rejection as such but the major reasons for rejection according to me are: delayed round admit (always go for round 1) and non-alignment of SoP (generic SoP will not get you admit). Make sure that you highlight what is special about you and why you like the college. Because UT Austin has a better ROI. With less fee and living cost and higher brand value across the US and India, it is worth the money spent. The admission process has a 3-question SOP (one of the questions is a video recording where you need to answer the SOP question and record it) and 2 LoR submissions. The SoP questions are around what you bring as a future student, why you have chosen UT and why you are a good employee for a data science role. Followed by a 15-minute interview to get to know you. They also check your GRE/GMAT (any one) score. The admission team is very responsive and the process is very smooth and always on time I applied for the summer 2023 intake as this is the only intake for the program (the program is of 1 year and gets over in the summer next year). I applied in round 1 and for that, the application process starts somewhere around August and the submission deadline is in mid-September.
