What Students Say
Likes
- Small cohorts with individual-level attention
- Extremely friendly and easy-to-approach faculty and staff
- Vibrant community in university
Course Curriculum
10
- The course structure is thoroughly revised and updated every year, based on the current market standards. Since I am in the Ph.D. program, it is almost entirely about research.
- As for industry experience, it completely depends on the students and their interests to pursue internships. The department facilitates such searches, but does not specialize in industry options as such (at the Ph.D. level).
- I had at most two classes a day. I had 10 students in my class. However, I think the Ph.D. experience is not similar to the general undergraduate experience.
Admission Experience
- I wanted to work at the intersection of behavioral economics and environmental economics. UWyo is one of the leading universities in that space. After my interview, I was surprised by the warmth and friendly atmosphere of the then graduate director (currently, my Ph.D. co-advisor).
- GRE >= 310 (soft cutoff). TOEFL >= 80 (soft cutoff). I am not aware of the requirements for undergraduate admissions.
Faculty
10
- Faculty are fantastic as far as the Ph.D. program is concerned!
Campus Life
6
- Ample research facilities are available. UWyo is an R1-rated institution, specializing in research endeavors. I am not privy to the various clubs or the Greek life on campus, but I have seen ads about them as well. Lots of cross-cultural group activities as well.
Part Time Jobs
- As Ph.D. students, we are automatically hired as DAs for five years. Our tuition and all other fees are covered, and we get paid stipends per month. We can work for 20 hours/week during the semester and up to 40 hours/week during the summer and winter break.
Placement
8
- For Ph. D.s, there are dedicated job boards that list job opportunities. That's how students get job offers primarily. Salary ranges from around $65-75K at the beginning.
Accommodation
Off Campus
8
- I rent a private apartment. I pay around $500 per month in rent.
Exams
- I applied for the Ph.D. program. I had to take the GRE and the TOEFL. Along with that, I had to submit a statement of purpose and three letters of recommendation from my previous professors. Upon being granted an offer, I had to take another English-speaking test conducted by the university.
Fees
- No idea. We do not have to pay anything. However, I hear UWyo's fees are typically on the lower side.
