Course Curriculum
- The course curriculum definitely needs to be updated. If you already have experience in data science, then you would be wasting time in 30% of the courses. The curriculum itself looks like something suitable for a bachelor student - in fact, most of these courses remain the same for bachelor students and master's students. The classes are 3 hours long. One class per week per course. International students need to take 2 courses. The average number of students is around 20 per class and max 40(90% Indians).
- There are lots of research opportunities; you just need to reach out.
Admission Experience
- Accepted because it was the best of the five admissions. The course curriculum was flexible for the student to select the courses he was interested in.
- My scores: GRE: 323, IELTS: 7.5
Faculty
- They are easy to approach. Everyone has office hours that are open for students to book. Everyone spends at least 2 hours per week on office hours. They can be contacted via email and usually respond within 2 days.
Campus Life
- There are 2 main campus Lincoln Park and Loop. Activities go on every day from different clubs. You can be a member of any club you want.
- The university has a free gym facility with all the equipment. You can play most of the games here for free. But you need a club membership for some sports.
- The university has some good labs that you can access in Loop campus with enough computing.
Part Time Jobs
- I think the university is great for the opportunities you have to work on campus. You can work in all kinds of positions: RA, TA, DA, Desk receptionist, Gym assistant, etc. You can work a max of 20 hours per week. Typical pay is around $18 per hour.
Placement
- No data on this. Almost 90% of my friends from previous batches did not get placements.
Accommodation
- I stay off campus. You can find rental homes from $1200 for 1 bed 1 bath and $1800 for 2 bed 1 bath. 2 people are legally allowed in 1 bedroom. Use Zillow and Apartments.com. Campus accommodation starts from $1500 per month.
