Mr. Ganesh Pai N is the Head of the Department of History at Besant Women’s College. He has over 34 years of experience and has played a pivotal role in shaping student’s minds. Mr. Pai has been associated with Besant Women’s College since 1990 when he joined as an Associate Professor. He holds a Master of Arts from Mangalore University.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
Besides academic efforts, we put in a lot of effort towards our students. We take our students to nearby historical places to generate awareness about our past, the present and the future. Through these visits, we show forts, and monuments and talk about the engineering skills required to create such a monument. We study the condition of the coastal region and talk about the basic material used.
What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?
Learning about the past is an important factor. We learn about the mistakes made in the past and learn how to amend them and not repeat them in the near future. This will make sure that we live prosperous life ahead. In our history degrees, we make sure to cover all aspects of a period or incident which will make them stand apart from other history students.
What will you say the “best practices” in the course you’re offering?
We maintain very cordial relations with the History professionals, alumni and other experts to help us bring new trends and changes to our course. We also hold talks and interaction sessions for students to network as well. All of these efforts will make our students and our nation stronger and more knowledgeable in the future.
What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?
This is a kind of program that broaden the mental horizon of the students. Our degrees and programs are designed to help with the mental and physical development of our students. This helps us create the best atmosphere for our students to learn and grow.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
We make sure to give our students a practical approach to our studies and involve them in outreach activities. These activities will make the students more socially and economically very strong for the next generation.
How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
Our college occasionally outsources and calls in experts to deliver special lectures so the students. This helps the students become more competitive and they are ready to face any challenge that comes their way. We make sure they are confident in delivering the lecture and are up to the college’s standard which will help us make self-confident and efficient for the future.
How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?
We frame the syllabus according to the needs of the industry. We make sure students learn everything that is relevant in today’s world. We have our students attend internships and live projects so that they student know what is happening in the industry and they are closely connected to it.
What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?
The biggest challenges are a lack of awareness and knowledge about the right courses. There are constraints on the understandability because of the different native languages of the students. Although it is difficult coordinating these problems, we are trying to overcome them.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this Program?
We go on outdoor visits to places that have historical importance. We visit such places to create awareness about the past among our students. This helps them gain practical knowledge along with the theoretical knowledge provided to them in class.
What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?
The benefit of this course is that, we can learn to not repeat the mistakes that were made in the past. We also have a fair idea that what our actions can lead to. There are a lot of opportunities for people in the industry regarding employability after this course.
