Dr.Manisha Saxena is currently Professor and Principal of the Dept. Of Hospital Management at the Deccan School of Management. She has a Ph.D. in Medical Sociology from the University of Hyderabad. Besides, she is a Ph.D. supervisor at Osmania University. She has 33 years of experience in industry and education. She has published four books and over 20 research papers. Her book on hospital Management is the prescribed book for the Masters' Degree in Hospital Management syllabus of Osmania University.

What is the latest program that you are offering in Deccan School of Hospital Management, Hyderabad which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

The program that we have added recently is the MBA( Hospital and Health Care Management). It is offered in collaboration with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. The advantage of this program is that it is offered in Distance Mode. Those who are working executives in the healthcare industry and wish to upgrade can enroll in the above program. On completion of the course, the candidate will have a postgraduate degree as well as experience, which will be helpful to start their professional career.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?

The most important factor is the syllabus, which is very crisp. It delivers optimum results in the given time span, i.e., 2 years (4 semesters). Secondly, the practical component is very strong in the course. The project work, dissertation, and Internship make the students future-ready. The study material that is given by the university is comprehensive and helps in preparing for the examinations. Students will have practical exposure to the curriculum through various activities.

What would you say are the “best practices” in the course you’re offering ?

The contact program conducted every semester for 2 weeks, which covers both theory and practicals in Owaisi hospitals, is one of the best practices as it is face-to-face and interactive. The guest lectures from industry experts and eminent healthcare academia also help in grooming the budding hospital managers. Also,the students will be having a real-time experience through various activities.

What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute?

The most important part of the program is the practical component of the syllabus. The students get an opportunity to get to work at ground level and witness real-time problems and difficulties.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

The students are taught theory subjects that will keep them abreast of the latest developments, as well as practical exposure that will equip their skills to be prepared for the future.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

Since we have one of the most reputed colleges, I am proud of the 100% placement of the students at our college. It’s a proud moment for us.

What strategy do you employ for building an efficient work team?

The best strategy for team building adopted by us is to first identify the strengths of the team members and delegate work accordingly, or, in other words, fix a square peg in a square hole. Secondly, respect and incorporate their suggestions in implementation, valuing their expertise.

What was the most challenging task that you faced in your career so far, and what did you learn from it?

The most challenging work in my career is that of man management . Retaining and extracting work from the team is a challenging job. 

What do you find Most difficult about being a Principal?

The most difficult part of being a principal is striking a balance between the expectations of the beneficiaries,complying with the management, and fulfilling the requirements of the regulatory bodies. As a Principal,there will be a lot of activities on a daily basis, and you need to be very active all the time to ensure the smooth functioning of the account.

What is your Vision for Deccan School of Hospital Management Hyderabad in the next Five years?

The vision of Deccan School of Hospital Management is to get it listed among the top hospital management colleges in the country and add a few more diploma courses in hybrid mode.
