Dr. Ashwini Brahme is the HOD of MCA at Yashaswi Education Society's International Institute of Management Science. She holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science, an MCA, a PhD in Computer Management, and an MBA in HR and Marketing. Dr. Brahme has over 16.4 years of teaching experience during which she received the second Best Paper award in the (Online) International Conference on “Techno-innovative practices for Sustainable Business Resilience” from 9th Dec. 2021 to 10th Dec 2021 organized by Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Management and Research, Pune and the Academic Jewel Award from Indira Group of Institutes, Pune, in 2011-2012.

Dr. Brahme has published over 22 research papers and 12 papers in international and national journals and conferences. She has also attended 22 faculty development programme and 12 seminars.

What are your primary responsibilities and how do you balance other aspects of your job?

My main role is to look over the overall academic management and coordinate events on behalf of the institute. I handle administration in terms of accreditation, and affiliation. I work towards the overall development of the students with respect to academics and other skill development.

How did the college inculcate Industry experience to students?

We organise industry expert sessions for students so that they have the latest knowledge and insights about the industry. We have signed a memorandum of understanding with various corporations to provide industry training so students can experience the industry work and inculcate the skills required which make them job ready. Many companies visit the college for placement. The students will be placed according to their choice and skills.

Do you have any extra-curricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

The college has many extra-curricular and co-curricular activities that inculcate management and IT-oriented expertise among the students through various competitions, events, seminars, indoor and outdoor training, etc. There are industry seminars, and technical competitions which encourage students to actively participate in the events. International conferences are conducted to give students the experience. There are many cultural events conducted throughout the year along with debate competitions, project competitions and case study competitions. The student committee actively conducts all the festivals in which students join and enjoy the college.

What are different projects the students work on during the curriculum?

Our students have to work on many projects during their MCA degrees. The complete industry related project topic with an industry mentor. There are also internal faculty guides to help students with their projects. The students have the option to choose live projects in the industry or opt for in-house projects where students can apply the skills they learn during the curriculum. There are many labs in which students have practicals in which they can apply the knowledge they learn during the courses.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the higher education industry and how is your college addressing those challenges?

Our biggest challenge is that we have to manage the syllabus in a limited amount of time. The courses and knowledge for students have to be included as per industry requirements. There are also administrative challenges also that we have to handle, such as norms and regulations in which we have to conduct courses and academics.

What are your vision and mission when you join this college?

The vision for our college is to contribute to high-quality management and Information Technology education. We want to give students a value and skill-based education and to provide students with an environment in which they excel in learning, researching and get the chance to improve their skills. 

What are the benefits of pursuing this course?

The courses provide in-depth information on computer applications. It covers important computing industry subjects and computer languages like C.C+, and Python. The students can work in the IT industry, or computer industry after graduation. They can join as a Program Developer, Business Analysts, and other jobs in the IT industry. The students can also join the research field if they further want to do research in a particular field.

How is the training of faculty done to deliver this program to the students?

The college has many programs for faculty training and faculty development in which the faculty get experience in curriculum teaching. There are many seminars, and workshops being conducted for faculty so that they are aware of the latest trends and knowledge which will be helpful while teaching the students.

What valuable advice would you like the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

The students who are passing out should be sincere and work hard to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge that will help them work in the industry. We should apply the knowledge we learn in the curriculum. The students should be proactive in training, workshops, and certifications that are provided by the college. The students should have a proper discussion with mentors about which field to join and have a great career ahead. They should be ready to join a company at any location and should be ready to do hard work in the company to achieve progress in the field.
