Dr. S.Sridhar is the Professor and Head of the Department of Automobile Engineering at RVS Technical Campus, Coimbatore. He has more than 28 years of teaching experience. He completed B.E in the year 1993 and M.E. in the year 1997. He obtained his Ph.D. degree under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai in the year 2012. He has published many research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and national journals and conferences. He has organized many workshops, seminars and conferences for the benefit of students and faculty members.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations within your college?

I strive to establish healthy relations within the department by fostering mutual support and better understanding among the faculty and students. I encourage open communication channels and promote a collaborative work environment where ideas and opinions are valued. Regular faculty meetings and student feedback sessions are conducted to address any concerns and maintain transparency. Additionally, I organize departmental events, workshops, and seminars that promote interaction and knowledge sharing among faculty and students. By nurturing a culture of respect, trust, and cooperation, we create a conducive environment that enhances learning, research, and overall growth within the department.

How do you help your students to cope up with the high competition outside?

We focus on providing effective and practical-oriented teaching-learning processes that equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge. To bridge the gap between academia and industry, we emphasize on industrial internships, beyond curriculum projects, and technical internships. We also organize regular industrial visits to give students first hand exposure to real-world scenarios. These experiences not only enhance their technical competence but also develop their problem-solving abilities and industry acumen. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical experiences, we empower our students to thrive in a competitive environment and excel in their future endeavors.

How do you bring in a practical approach towards the subject?

We believe in bringing a practical approach towards the subject. We organize seminars where industry experts are invited to share their experiences and insights with students. We also encourage research activities and project-based learning, where students can apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Practical sessions are an integral part of our curriculum, where students gain hands-on experience with automobiles and related equipment. Through these initiatives, we aim to develop the practical skills and problem-solving abilities of our students, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of the industry.

How do you enhance the skills and expose students to real world challenges?

We have established a strong association with the SAE collegiate club, which organizes workshops and events focused on various aspects of automotive engineering. Through these workshops, students gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in areas such as vehicle design, development, and manufacturing. We also encourage participation in prestigious competitions like SUPRA SAE, BAJA SAE, and Efficycle SAE, where students have the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete with teams from other institutions. These activities provide valuable exposure to the challenges faced in the automotive industry and help students develop their technical, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

Firstly, our college boasts a fully-fledged campus with state-of-the-art facilities, including well-equipped laboratories and workshops. Secondly, we have a strong track record of outstanding placements, with our students being recruited by top-tier companies in the automotive industry. What do you see as RVS greatest strengths?

We have exceptional infrastructure, a huge resourceful library with more than 40,000 titles and an excellent laboratory setup to skill up the students. In addition, design based learning - CATIA,PRO-E, AUTOCAD, etc. is an integral part of our curriculum. We have MoU’s with foreign higher education institutes, and top automobile companies in India including Ashok Leyland, Hyundai Motors Private Limited, etc. We also offer internship opportunities and special training courses designed for higher studies like GATE, CAT etc.

What kind of teaching methodologies do you generally follow during your classes? 

I believe in adopting a student-centric approach to teaching. Our teaching methodologies focus on engaging students through interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities. I always understand the importance of supplementing theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, which is why we incorporate value-added content such as videos and assignments to enhance the learning experience. We encourage active participation and foster critical thinking skills among our students by encouraging them to ask questions, collaborate with peers, and undertake independent research. By embracing a variety of teaching techniques, I also aim to cater to different learning styles and create an enriching environment for our students.
