Prof. D. Gopinath is the Director of the Sindhi Institute Of Management. He has over 25 years of experience working in the education field.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
One of my enduring priorities is to maintain a positive public image. Over the past 25 years, whether as a dean, director, or head of departments in MBA programs, I have consistently prioritized the advancement of the institute, striving for the betterment of students, faculty, and stakeholders alike. I am committed to going above and beyond to achieve these goals, and I will continue to do so steadfastly into the future.
Being the Director of SIMS what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
My leadership approach is grounded in practicality. I firmly believe in recognizing the potential within everyone and fostering an environment where individuals are encouraged to enhance their skills and advance in their careers. My goal is to provide support in any way possible to facilitate their growth. I delegate tasks, empowering individuals to take the lead in their respective areas of expertise and encouraging them to propose solutions. Additionally, I ensure that there is always assistance available within our institution for those who require guidance. It is paramount to me that individuals are well-supported and given the opportunity to thrive within our institution.
How does the curriculum of SIMS ensure the best practice of industry?
The syllabus at Bengaluru Central University, with which we are affiliated, undergoes revision every three years. This process involves collaboration with the university, experts, academicians, industry professionals, and college directors, all with the student community's interests at heart. We are committed to providing the best possible support for the growth of both students and faculty members. Recognizing that many colleges may not be able to fulfill every requirement, we impose certain restrictions while also offering a range of value-added programs separately. These programs bridge the gap between university offerings and student needs, focusing on areas essential for placements and personal development.

Any insights into how your institute could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
At our college, we operate on a principle rooted in humanity and compassion. We maintain a fee structure that reflects only the actual costs incurred, devoid of any profit motives. Our aim is to channel all earnings back into the student community. Hence, we offer various value-added programs, create conducive learning environments, conduct assessments, host guest lectures, and facilitate industry interactions and placements—all without burdening students with additional expenses beyond the basic fees.
What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?
Placement is a significant challenge that requires our maximum dedication. The success of our efforts hinges upon the input we receive from our college students. Approximately half of our student body hails from government-sponsored backgrounds, while the remaining 50% are from management quotas. We strive to cater to the needs of both groups equally. Our primary objective is not merely to provide immediate solutions, but to empower students to sustain themselves in the long term. Each student is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the industry post-graduation. Our focus encompasses confidence building, language enhancement, professional attire, communication proficiency, and comprehensive placement support. The SIMS Team ensures that every student, regardless of their background, receives equal opportunities for growth and success.
What is the greatest strength of SIMS right now?
The greatest asset of SIMS college undoubtedly lies in our faculty. Firstly, 75% of our faculty members hold PhDs, showcasing their expertise and dedication to their field. Additionally, we provide ample opportunities for research and related activities, as many of our faculty members continue to engage in postdoctoral work, publish papers, and develop innovative concepts even after completing their doctoral studies. We instill this research-oriented mindset in our students as well, emphasizing the practical aspects of research. Furthermore, we actively encourage interaction between students and faculty members, fostering an environment where students can improve their communication skills and gain confidence in public speaking. This not only enhances their ability to excel in placements but also prepares them for future leadership roles. By implementing such practical approaches to management studies, we aspire to position ourselves among the top colleges in Bangalore and across India.
