Prof. Arya Kumar Bhattacharya is the dean of research and professor at the Ecole Centrale School of Engineering, Mahindra University. He was awarded with Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in 1994. He has with him more than twenty years of industrial experience, including at Defence Research and Development Organization (ADA – Bangalore), Alstom Transport (UK) and Tata Steel (Automation Division, Jamshedpur), all in Research and Development roles at different levels. He has been an AICTE-INAE distinguished visiting professor at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. He has filed for more than twenty patents and published more than forty papers in journals, international conferences and book chapters. His multi-disciplinary research interests cover artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning, evolutionary algorithms, game theory, an autonomous systems applied to different domains like aerospace, manufacturing and industry 4.0, logistics and supply chain, transportation and others.

You held key positions at various prestigious organizations throughout your career. What made you excited and walk with Mahindra University on the journey?
When I was presented with the opportunity to join Mahindra University as the Dean of Research and Development, I was genuinely excited and eager to embark on this new chapter in my career. As the Dean of Research and Development, I am committed to promoting an environment that encourages and supports research endeavors. Some of the key strategies and initiatives we have in place to foster a culture of research and scholarship within our college include investment in state-of-the-art research facilities, laboratories, and libraries to provide our faculty and students with the necessary resources to conduct high-quality research. We continually upgrade and expand these resources to stay at the forefront of innovation. We offer various research grants and funding opportunities to faculty members and students. These financial incentives help them embark on research projects, attend conferences, and publish their findings in reputable journals. We encourage interdisciplinary collaboration by facilitating interactions between different departments and research centers. This promotes cross-pollination of ideas and fosters innovative research projects that address complex societal challenges. We will establish research centers and initiatives that bring together experts from diverse fields to tackle complex problems. Our faculty members are the backbone of our research endeavors. To enhance our research capabilities, we will invest in professional development, provide research grants, and create an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity.
