Mr. Nagul Meera Sayyed has been working as the Head of CSE Department at Hindu College of Engineering and Technology, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He is a distinguished academician and able administrator with more than 12 years of work experience in the teaching sector. And he has grown from the ranks right here in the institute, starting his teaching career as Lecturer in 2011. Also, as part of his education, he has done Masters from JNTU Kakinada and PhD from Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam University of Indore. Over the years, he has published 5 research papers in various reputed National and International journals, besides a couple of patents to his credit. In his impressive teaching and administrative career, he has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking. He has also endeared himself to his students and colleagues alike through his affable nature and empathetic leadership style. Throughout his career, he has attended 19 Workshops.

Being the Head of CSE Department at Hindu College, what are your key responsibilities towards students?

As the Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department at Hindu College of Engineering and Technology, my core responsibility is to take care of all academic affairs and day-to-day activities related to teaching and other workloads of teaching and non-teaching staff. In addition to this, I am accountable for organizing events and activities like guest lectures/extension lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences on campus for students skills development, educate them about the latest trends, developments and requirements of the industrial world and facilitate direct interaction between them and top-notch industry experts and leaders.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty of your institution? 

For the purpose of maintaining good relations with the students of my institution, I take care of all their academic and non-academic requirements, call them by their names, provide them equal opportunities and have one-on-one, transparent and trustworthy interaction with them on a regular basis. And when it comes to fellow faculty, we all work as a team and stay ready to help each other in need. I also share my professional experiences with both to build a bond of togetherness. 

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

We have introduced job-oriented subjects and emphasize a lot on the hands-on aspects of courses to ensure a practical and corporate driven approach towards subjects. Additionally we have maintained transparency in our assessment process and make best use of the internet to learn new technologies and share the same knowledge with students. 

Which best practices have been adopted by your department to help students gain necessary skills? 

Our department takes care of students' interest, treats them with empathy and respect and helps them grow in their respective field by providing all kinds of possible support, guidance and learning and networking opportunities. Apart from this, we motivate them to regularly interact and collaborate with their faculty.

How does your college strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for students? 

The curriculum of our institution is designed and updated on a continuous basis after rigorous analysis of corporate demands, trends and developments and consultation with experts and eminent academicians as we get their direct inputs and feedback related to course improvement, technology integration and best teaching practices. Also, as the world has become more digital than ever, we have included technological advancements in our programs as well. Then there are different software applications we take help from to develop our courses development and delivery strategies. Lastly, as and when needed, our pedagogies are tweaked after successful consideration of students' individual needs.

How sitting in campus placement or pursuing a higher degree course could be beneficial for students in your opinion? 

In my opinion, there are several benefits students get after sitting in campus placement at an institution. First and foremost, it saves their valuable time and money as they don’t have to search for job openings on portals by themselves. Apart from this, campus placement gives eligible students high-paid and growth-oriented jobs in reputed companies. Last but not the least, students applying for campus placement gain a lot of confidence, desire, enthusiasm, zeal, and spirit to perform better at every step of their professional journey.

And if we talk about the advantages associated with pursuing a higher degree course, then students gain a lot of knowledge and skills that will ultimately help them get into their desired profession. Also, students can select an area of specialization as per their passion and interest and plan their career trajectory according to the same. Apart from this, students are likely to be better off than other people in terms of economic well-being, participation in community affairs, and physical health.

How do you prepare your students to confidently deal with the difficulties of the outside competitive world?

We motivate our students to believe in themselves, their unique qualities and consider them as their only competition and to be transparent about their performance in various competitions. Apart from this, we have developed a culture of cheerleading and good sportsmanship on campus. 

Which extracurricular activities are organized by your college to enhance the skills of students?

With the aim to enhance the technical, problem-solving, creativity and leadership skills of our students by exposing them to a challenging environment, our college regularly organizes various kinds of co-curricular activities, events and fests including sports tournaments, debate competitions, cultural programs followed by guest sessions, seminars, workshops and skills development training programs.

What unique approach does your college follow while transforming students into professionals?

Our college provides a plethora of opportunities to our students to help them realize their potential and showcase their unique talents to a larger audience. In addition to this, we offer guidance and much needed support to transform them into future entrepreneurs and good human beings. Lastly, we have maintained Pupil-Teacher Ratio to give undivided attention to our young minds and a safe environment has been developed for them to grow on both personal and professional fronts. 

How does your college enhance the faculty skills and prepare them according to industry standards? 

Although all our teachers are highly qualified and experienced in their respective domains, with changing times and technologies, they need regular skills upgradation and enhancement in their teaching methodologies. Therefore, various kinds of training programs in different domains of teaching and learning are arranged by our institution from time to time. They are also engaged in collaborative research projects and are encouraged to participate in conferences, seminars and workshops conducted by us and industries.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of your department?

The greatest strength of our department is its ability to accept and learn from mistakes, highly trained, qualified and extensively experienced teachers and their capabilities followed by a good teaching and learning environment and well-equipped Labs we have developed over the years. 

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to students for a prosperous career ahead? 

I would advise my dear students and youths of our society to plan and pursue their career as per their interest and passion and maintain a consistent and dedicated attitude in their learning journey. Also, stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements of both the industrial and educational world. Last but not the least, respect everyone and be a reason for inspiration for others, because connections you make today will help you grow tomorrow in this cut-throat competitive world.
