Dr. Rajni Rathi has been working as the Director of Tatyam School of Design, New Delhi since March 2016. She has done PhD in Marketing from Amity University of Greater Noida Campus. Also, she has a total work experience of 16+ years and Integration of Design Vastu and Astrology for prosperity and peace in life is her area of expertise.

What are your responsibilities towards students as the Director of TSD and how has been your experience in the education industry so far?

Being the Director of Tatyam School of Design, my key role is to ensure the overall development of our students by maximizing their potential and equipping them with essential life skills. And if I talk about my experience in the dynamic and challenging of education, it's been amazing so far and I have fostered skills such as planning, organizing, critical thinking, team-building, and effective communication among all stakeholders and students who work for us and work with us.

How would you describe your visionary leadership style and its importance in the educational setting?

I strongly believe that for an effective leader, maintaining effective interpersonal relationships is very crucial and my leadership style mainly emphasizes on being an initiator, innovator and originator. And I also encourage critical thinking among co-workers, make goal-oriented decisions, and inspire others for the future development of the institution.

What challenges have you faced during the inception of Tatyam School of Design and how did you address them?

Establishing a different and unique institution was a key challenge for us during the inception of Tatyam School of Design and we all tackled this by adopting unique approaches to develop infrastructure, course content and giving special focus on programs fees and student demographics. Apart from this, there was another challenge of obtaining recognition from an authorized body and building visibility when other institutions were already present in the region and we overcame this hurdle through strategic planning and collaborations.

How does the curriculum at TSD ensure best practices of industry and provide required practical exposure to students?

Our curriculum focuses on combining unique ideas with technical and psychological proficiency as the aim of TSD is to equip students with much needed design skills and keep them updated with the latest trends, technologies and developments of both the industrial and academic world. And to achieve this, we regularly organize workshops, seminars, factory visits, market surveys, fashion shows, and more and also offer amazing internships and job opportunities to students.

How does your institution prepare students for placement and ensure their overall growth?

We have adopted a holistic approach to provide quality education to students and motivate them to become self-sufficient and creative individuals. And to make them job ready, we have a diverse range of classroom activities, guest lectures, workshops, and industry collaborations which helps us in many ways to instill practical skills and industry knowledge in young and ambitious minds.

What are the goals of Tatyam School of Design and how do you plan to achieve them?

The key goals of our Tatyam School of Design is to admit 100 students on an annual basis and deliver the best quality education to students in accordance with evolving industry standards and educational trends. In addition to this, we aspire to provide required growth opportunities and a conducive learning environment to students as and when needed in support with industry veterans.

How do you see the future of interior designers in India, considering the evolving trends and government initiatives?

The industry of Interior Designing in India has reached new heights especially with the emphasis on plush residences and the government’s initiatives like smart city. It has also significantly boosted opportunities for interior designers.

Any advice which you would like to give to the current youths and aspiring students of the design industry?

As we all know that success in the field of Interior and Fashion Design requires not only required creativity and artistic vision but also a disciplined work attitude and business savvy mind. Hence I would like to advise my students to balance aesthetic sensibilities with meeting client’s functional needs within budget and on time.

In your opinion, how important is discipline and business acumen for a successful career in interior design?

In my viewpoint, while creativity and imagination play a significant role, disciplined work attitude and business acumen are equally essential for a successful career in interior design. Because they are crucial for fulfilling client expectations and ensuring projects are executed efficiently and on schedule.
