As the founder/director of WMI what inspired you to establish the wedding management institute?
The wedding industry now has almost touched the pinnacle of creativity, having said that, every planner and designer are eager to explore the unexplored. So without any second thought we can say that it is one of the fastest-growing industries in India right now. There is a huge demand and potential here, but on the other hand, as a professional running a wedding company too, I could not find such talent who would add value to my company and my art so it was the prime motive that inspired me to establish an institute of Wedding Management to train students. Even though many in India still do not take the wedding industry as a mainstream profession, but I wanted to make this undisputed choice of profession where there is a lot of money and scope, which is a perfect start to a career for any student.
Are there any internship or practical training opportunities provided to students as a part of their education?
Yes, our institute does provide internship and practical training opportunities, as we have designed our curriculum in such a way that it gives people and students the most relevant education and theoretical knowledge possible. The institute provides internships, which are an integral part of the course, and the curriculum is designed in such a way that internships are compulsory for every student. And if the student does not complete the internship, he or she won’t get the certificate. Also, we take the students for the on-site, i.e., offsite, and whatever subjects they learn as theoretical knowledge in the classroom, they go and actually see them on the site, for example, a warehouse or a hotel. So yes, we do provide on-the-ground and practical training, which is very important.
How do you provide on ground training which is necessary for these students to grow?
Our courses are categorized into three module : theoretical knowledge, off-site, and master classes. What all subjects are learned in the classroom by the students, that is practically applied on the field, to provide them on-the-ground training, For e.g., while Tak ring up DECOR or PRODUCTION(which are few of the subjects) we take students to the warehouse , where they practise all that is been taught in the class and see the ground reality. In this way, we help them to have practical knowledge apart from classroom knowledge.
What is the future of the students opting for this course?
The future of the students opting for this course is very bright, as there is huge demand and potential for trained professionals in the wedding industry. It is currently the fastest-growing industry in India. Also, none of our students are there who have not been placed. Every student gets an internship, and we also ensure them a very bright future ahead.
How do you envision the future of wedding management and what is your role as a founder/director of this institute?
Wedding management is moving to a different level nowadays, and it is one of the fastest-growing industries in India. The best thing is that when you come and join this industry, there is not only one field to select from, you can choose from wedding planner to a wedding designer , a wedding stylist, etc. Several aspects of this course facilitate students' selection of the best option from the multiple options available, and thus the future of wedding management is very bright. Nowadays, numerous companies are also hiring professionals, which gives the student a greater scope. As a founder, I put in all the experience I had in my 17 years journey to ensure that all the students acquire the practical knowledge that is required for the wedding industry and make sure that no student goes back without any practical experience, as practical experience is very important in this field for a student. I also teach different skills to my students, and my role as a founder is to bring to the table a lot of practical knowledge about this industry for the students.
Are there any opportunities for students to gain international exposure?
Yes, there are many opportunities for students to gain international exposure. For the first course, our students went on an internship project for Wedding Sutra, a wedding portal where there were 60–70 wedding planners, and the students were supposed to manage them in Dubai. It gave international exposure, and other similar opportunities are also there as well. With destination weddings going on trend, there is a lot of demand for wedding professionals in different countries like Thailand, Turkey, and the UAE.So wedding planners seek and need individuals who know Indian weddings, and thus the demand is going up to the next level.
