Dr. Satish Kumar Avasthi has been working as the Principal of Swasthya Kalyan Institute of Medical Technology and Nursing Education, Jaipur, Rajasthan since 2007. Also, the prime objective of the institution is to achieve academic excellence by imparting quality education and inculcating values like Authenticity, Creativity and Humbleness in students.

What courses does your institute offer to students who aspire to make a career in Nursing ?

Our Swasthya Kalyan Institute of Medical Technology and Nursing Education was the first private institution in the state of Rajasthan and it was founded with the aim to produce well-trained and professionally competent Nursing individuals who can cater to the ever-expanding needs of the healthcare industry. Also, our college is approved by the Government of Rajasthan, recognized by Indian Nursing Council of India and affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences.

And at present we are offering courses like Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery, 3-years GNM program along with 4-years Bachelor of Science (Nursing), and for both we have 6+ months mandatory internship for students. Then we have a 2-years M.Sc course in various disciplines of Nursing such as Community Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Paediatric Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing.

What facilities and factors make your college unique and different from others?

The infrastructure of our college has been developed in accordance with the standards and guidelines defined by the Indian Nursing Council and Government of Rajasthan. And we offer finest quality and employment oriented Nursing education to students using advanced technologies and equipment which are necessary for the teaching-learning process. Apart from this, we have highly trained and qualified faculties to teach students, and all of them are very experienced in their respective domains. Last but not the least, we have big playgrounds for students to have fun and play various outdoor games. Hence I would say that our institution's facilities and unwavering commitment for overall development of students has made it a top choice among them.

What extracurricular activities and events are organized by your college to enhance students skills?

For the skills enhancement and betterment of our students and also to teach them how to conduct an event, our college regularly organizes a diverse range of co-curricular activities ranging from Annual Function and Sports Tournaments, Fresher’s Party and Farewell Parties.

Other than this, we celebrate days related to health and happiness on a monthly basis and workshops and seminars are also an integral part of the curriculum. Our students also get to work on amazing research projects with their Teachers. And for all this to happen seamlessly, we have developed a very beautiful campus, smart classrooms, modern labs followed by enough arrangements for clean drinking water and electricity facilities.

How do you use the immense knowledge and experience gained over the years, for the better of your college?

We follow 6 key principles including Teach, Teamwork, Excellence, Ethnicity, Creativity and Humbleness, while working for the growth and development of our students and college. Apart from this, we provide necessary guidance, support and resources whenever students need them, so that they can upgrade their skills and knowledge on a timely basis.

How would you describe your leadership style?

Leadership is all about empowering others with the right opportunity and guidance as and when needed and learning new things throughout the process. Because, in my opinion, as a Leader, whenever we interact with people of different mindset, skills and experience, we get to learn a whole lot of new things. Other than this, a true leader knows the importance of hardwork, time and how to use existing resources and processes to get the tasks done on time.

Being a principal, how does your work impact the growth of this institute?

When I joined this institution, it used to offer only the B.Sc. (Nursing) courses. But over time, I analyzed multiple things and came to the conclusion that there is an urgent need for other courses as well, because it's very essential for students to succeed in today's competitive world and only a single Graduation course will not be sufficient keeping in mind the ever changing needs of the healthcare sector. Hence, year by year, we worked rigorously towards this and with the committed work attitude and dedicated efforts of everyone, we started so many other courses. So overall, the journey has been quite exciting till now and I hope to see the same momentum in coming years also.

What are the Key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I strongly believe in the fact that education has the power to change someone's life and it's not only the sector to earn money but a noble and truly rewarding and unmatchable profession in all aspects. Also, it gives me immense happiness when I see my students succeeding in their goals and achieving what they always wanted to. Therefore, I would say that my self-determination and ambition to bring positive changes in people's lives by educating them, are the driving factors behind my long association with the dynamic and challenging world of education.
