Chef Aman Goyal is an Assistant Professor of Food Production at the College of Hospitality Administration, Jaipur. After completing a Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology from Jaipur National University, he also pursued a Masters in Operation and Production Management from Suresh Gyan Vihar, Jaipur.

Chef Goyal is an active participant in cooking competitions, faculty development programs and more in his area of expertise. Besides his present employment, he has also worked at Ananda- In The Himalayas, Rishikesh, the Sarovar Portico Hotel, Jaipur, the Shakun Hotel and Resort, the Arena-One A Fine Dine Restaurant & Bar, among others. In academia, he has worked at the Dangayach School of Hotel Management as HOD of Food Production.

Being a Faculty of the Food Production Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

My primary goal as a faculty member in the Food Production Department would be to inspire and empower students to become competent professionals in the field. I also must equip my students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical values necessary for a successful career in food production.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

Establishing healthy relationships with students and fellow faculty members is essential for fostering a positive and supportive academic environment. I make it a point to treat everyone with respect and professionalism. I value their opinions, experiences, and contributions to the department and the college at large. I aim to create an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected.


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

Educators can bridge the gap between theory and practice, and prepare students with the right skills and knowledge, but practical experience is needed to succeed in their chosen industries. Facilitating networking events, career fairs, and industry conferences where students can interact with professionals, explore career opportunities, and build connections within the industry is crucial to this end.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

The best practices offered by any department to help students gain the necessary skills can vary depending on the specific field of study and the department's resources. Staying informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the field and incorporating relevant updates into the curriculum will ensure that students are equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills. How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

We design and update our curriculum to best suit our students' needs, but it requires careful planning and consideration. We try to maintain a long-term vision for the curriculum, considering its impact on students' learning outcomes, preparation for future endeavours, and contribution to their overall development as lifelong learners.


What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department or How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

Departments can effectively prepare students for higher education and career placements, by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. We host workshops on resume writing, interview skills, networking, and career exploration that can help students prepare for the job market and higher education admissions processes.


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

Helping students cope with the high levels of competition in the outside world involves providing them with both practical strategies and emotional support. We recognise and celebrate students' efforts, progress, and achievements, regardless of their rank or position relative to others. The college also emphasises the importance of intrinsic motivation and the satisfaction of personal growth.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to the real-world challenges?

We believe offering extracurricular activities and programs is an excellent way to enhance students' skills and expose them to real-world challenges. By offering a diverse range of extracurricular activities and programs, we try to provide students with opportunities to enhance their skills, explore their interests, and prepare for future academic and career pursuits. These activities, like academic and sports competitions, expert lectures, and industry visits, also contribute to a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

Our biggest challenges are in regard to ensuring that faculty members have access to ongoing professional development opportunities and have support to enhance their teaching skills. We also face issues incorporating new pedagogical approaches and staying updated with advancements in our field.


When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

When I first joined the institute, I worked with the aim of creating a vibrant and forward-thinking college community that empowers students to realise their full potential. I wanted to make meaningful contributions to society and help my students thrive in a rapidly changing world. To a great extent, I have succeeded in achieving my goals but there is more work to be done.


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

Remember that success is not solely defined by external measures such as job titles or salary levels. Success can also be measured by personal fulfilment, growth, and contribution to society. Stay true to yourself, stay focused on your goals, and keep moving forward with determination and resilience.
