Every year, BITS Pilani’s “Direct admission for board toppers” program allows toppers to join its first-degree programmes without taking the BITSAT entrance exam.
Under this scheme, first-rank holders from any recognised boards (central and state boards) from the science stream are eligible for direct admission. Each year, over the last few years, approximately 17 students have been admitted under the direct admission policy.
To be eligible for direct admission,
- Students must be toppers in PCM or PCB with a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in the stream.
- A minimum 60% score is mandatory in each subject of physics, chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology.
“The student who has taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in Class 12 and obtained the highest marks aggregate among all such students.”, BITS Pilani defines a topper.

Understanding the Direct Admission Scheme for BITSAT 2026
Direct admission of the board toppers is a merit-based entry to BITS Pilani’s first-degree programs. Unlike the standard BITSAT route, where students have to score high in the test, toppers are allowed to get admission directly into the programs.
- This scheme targets students who have topped their respective boards(including both central boards and state boards) in the science stream.
- The institute verifies topper status directly with boards to maintain fairness.
- For BITSAT 2026, this means students passing their class 12 exams in 2026 can apply post results, skipping the April-May BITSAT sessions.
| Aspect | Description |
|---|---|
| Target Students | First rank holders in central (CBSE, CISCE) and state boards |
| Qualifying stream | Science (PCM for engineering; PCB for pharmacy or environmental focus) |
| Verification focus | Direct from board authorities, the highest aggregate in PCM/PCB required |
| The maximum number of candidates allowed from the same board | A maximum of 4 candidates from the same board if the tie persists |
| BITSAT Requirement | No. Complete bypass of registration and exam. |
