National Institute of Unani Medicine or NIUM Bangalore is an autonomous institute working for the research, teaching, and training in the Unani System of Medicine. Since its establishment in 1984, it has been working under the aegis of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The institute has affiliation with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS), Karnataka and is India’s first NABH accredited Unani Hospital.
It offers Postgraduate and Research level courses in various disciplines. Admissions to these courses are merit based. NIUM also caters to the need for the socio economically weaker section by conducting health camps.

Admission to National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangalore is entrance based. For PG courses, one needs to clear the AIAPGET and BUMS degree with a minimum aggregate score. Maximum age limit for General candidates is 35 years, for OBC candidates is 38 years and for SC, ST, Women is 40 years applying for PH.D courses.

NIUM scholarships are provided to the students who are socio-economically weaker and meritorious. A research fellowship is provided to Ph.D candidates in their first and second year as directed by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Although the total duration is two years, the fellowship may be awarded for another year based on their performance.
