BIMTECH FPM FAQs
Ques. Is the FPM at BIMTECH equivalent to a PhD degree?
Ans. Yes, the FPM at BIMTECH is approved by AICTE (Ministry of Education, Govt. of India) and recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to a PhD degree of an Indian University. This recognition is important for academic careers, as it qualifies FPM graduates for faculty positions at AICTE-approved institutions. However, it is important to note that it is not a PhD degree from a university - it is an FPM degree from BIMTECH, recognized as equivalent to a PhD.
Ques. What is the difference between FPM and EFPM at BIMTECH?
Ans. FPM (Fellow Programme in Management) is a full-time programme for young researchers who want to pursue academic or research careers. It comes with a full tuition fee waiver and a monthly scholarship of Rs. 50,000-55,000. EFPM (Executive Fellow Programme in Management) is designed for working professionals with at least 5 years of managerial/executive/teaching experience. EFPM classes are held in modules (21 days spread across 4 modules), allowing professionals to continue working. EFPM scholars pay tuition fees (Rs. 80,000 per annum) and do not receive the monthly scholarship.
Ques. Do I need a CAT score to apply for FPM at BIMTECH?
Ans. No, a CAT score is not mandatory. Candidates without a valid CAT/GMAT/UGC-NET score need to appear for the BIMTECH Entrance Test. However, having a CAT score of 90 percentile and above or a valid UGC-NET JRF certificate exempts you from the entrance test AND qualifies you for the enhanced scholarship (Rs. 60,000/month from Year 2 onwards instead of Rs. 55,000/month).
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing FPM from BIMTECH?
Ans. FPM graduates from BIMTECH have gone on to become faculty members at reputed business schools and management institutes across India. Some have also taken up research and consulting roles in industry. The AACSB accreditation of BIMTECH adds credibility to the degree. However, for positions at IIMs and top-tier institutions, a PhD from a university (IIM, IIT, or foreign university) is generally preferred over an FPM from a private institution.
Ques. How long does it typically take to complete the FPM at BIMTECH?
Ans. The FPM is designed as a 4-year programme. The first year involves coursework (3 trimesters), followed by thesis proposal preparation and approval, and then thesis research and writing. Based on the alumni data on the BIMTECH website, most scholars complete the programme in 4-6 years. The scholarship is provided for 4 years, and scholars are expected to complete the programme within this period.
Ques. What research areas are available in the FPM at BIMTECH?
Ans. The FPM is offered in 8 specialisation areas: (1) Business Communication, (2) Economics and International Business, (3) Finance, Insurance and Risk Management, (4) Information Technology, (5) Marketing and Retail, (6) Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management, (7) Operations and Decision Sciences, and (8) Strategy, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and CSR.
