Vidyasagar College Kolkata: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 3 Reviews

The college admission process begins with the release of merit lists categorized by departments and subjects online. Students listed must verify their documents in person before proceeding with admission and registration. The faculty is generally helpful with a faculty-to-student ratio of around 4:1, though concerns exist about their professionalism and outdated teaching methods, which rely heavily on traditional techniques like blackboards and chalk. Communication with faculty might be challenging as they are less responsive through calls or WhatsApp.

The college does not offer a structured placement program or career guidance for post-graduation, focusing instead on supporting further academic pursuits like MSc and Ph.D. Without internship opportunities, the curriculum is heavily theoretical and lab-based, lacking practical exposure. Scholarships are available, mainly for students from lower-income families and SC/ST categories, with limited merit-based options. The Vivekananda scholarship is widely accessible for assisting with college fees. The course is reasonably priced at about Rs.

36,000, and eligible students can apply for various State and Central Government scholarships, such as the Kanyashree scholarship, which provides Rs. 25,000.

Fees and Financial Aid:

Scholarships were only available for students who belong to lower annual income family and SC or ST categories. Which I found very disappointing. There should have been competition on merit basis for scholarships so that quality of education could be promoted. But alas! No such system exists to promote quality education and now situation far worse than before.
