JNMC MBBS FAQs

Ques. What is the AMU Internal Quota at JNMC, and how does it work?

Ans. JNMC has a unique seat distribution: 50% of its 150 MBBS seats (i.e., 75 seats) are reserved for AMU Internal Quota candidates. These are students who have passed their 10+2 from schools affiliated with or recognized by Aligarh Muslim University. These candidates must also qualify NEET UG, but they compete separately within the internal quota pool, which typically has a lower closing rank compared to the All India Quota. The remaining 75 seats are filled through MCC All India Quota counselling, open to all NEET-qualified candidates across India.

Ques. What is the expected NEET UG rank required for JNMC Aligarh under the All India Quota?

Ans. JNMC is highly competitive. For the General category under the All India Quota, the closing rank has historically been within the top 5,000 to 8,000 All India Rank (AIR). For OBC candidates, the closing rank is typically in the range of 8,000 to 15,000 AIR. SC/ST candidates may get admission at relatively higher ranks due to reservation. These are indicative figures based on past trends; actual cutoffs vary each year based on NEET difficulty and the number of candidates.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for MBBS students at JNMC?

Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is generally available for all MBBS students at JNMC, as the college operates within the AMU campus which has extensive hostel infrastructure. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls. The hostel rent is highly subsidized at approximately Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 per year. Rooms are furnished with a bed, table, chair, and almirah. Mess facilities are available at actual cost, making it very affordable.

Ques. What is the clinical exposure like at JNMC Aligarh?

Ans. JNMC's attached teaching hospital, JNMCH (Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital), has over 1,300 beds and serves as the primary tertiary care centre for Western Uttar Pradesh. The hospital sees an extremely high and diverse patient load, which provides MBBS students with exceptional clinical exposure across all specialties. Students interact with real patients from the early years of their MBBS programme, which is considered one of the strongest aspects of medical education at JNMC.

Ques. Can JNMC MBBS graduates appear for USMLE, PLAB, or other international licensing exams?

Ans. Yes. JNMC is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, and its MBBS degree is recognized internationally. Graduates can appear for USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia), and other international licensing examinations. JNMC's strong academic reputation and clinical training make its graduates competitive in international medical licensing exams. Graduates must also clear the NExT (National Exit Test) for practicing medicine in India.

Ques. What are the career options after MBBS from JNMC Aligarh?

Ans. After completing MBBS from JNMC, graduates have multiple career pathways. They can pursue postgraduate medical education (MD/MS) by qualifying NEET PG, with JNMC itself offering PG programmes in multiple specialties. Other options include joining government health services (UPSC/state PSC medical officer exams), pursuing super-specialty (DM/MCh) after PG, working in private hospitals or setting up independent practice, pursuing research and academic medicine, or going abroad for higher studies or practice. The MBBS degree from a reputed government college like JNMC opens doors across all these pathways.

JNMC Aligarh: 1 Answered Question

Is it worth leaving KGMU seat for AMU seat of an MBBS taking in consideration the UP bond and internal PG reservation?

Sagar Dikshitlives in Lucknow

You are right in considering the UP bond and internal PG reservation while making your choice.

  • Internal Reservation- JNMC offers 50% internal PG quota, which is completely free of caste based reservation. This is beneficial if you plan to pursue PG after your graduation. Also, you’ll have better chances of getting clinical seats here at around 23k AIR.
  • Rural Bond- Unlike KGMU, JNMC doesn’t come under the two year rural bond. This is a big relief in itself.
  • Location- Location wise though, Lucknow is far more developed than Aligarh.

You may choose JNMC (AMU) over any of these top colleges of UP- KGMU, RMLIMS, GSVM, MLN and LLRM. The reason being, as already mentioned by you.
