GVMC DMLT FAQs
Q1. Is there any entrance exam for DMLT admission at GVMC, Vellore?
Ans. No, there is no entrance examination for DMLT admission at Government Vellore Medical College. Admission is purely merit-based, determined by marks obtained in Class 12 (Higher Secondary). Candidates must apply through the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee (TNMSC) centralised online counselling portal (tnmedicalselection.net) during the application window announced by DMER Tamil Nadu.
Q2. What is the total fee for the DMLT course at GVMC?
Ans. The total tuition fee for the entire 2-year DMLT programme at GVMC is just Rs. 3,000, making it one of the most affordable DMLT programmes in India. This is a government-subsidised fee. Hostel charges, if opted for, are additional and charged separately. SC/ST students may be eligible for full fee waiver under Tamil Nadu government schemes.
Q3. How many seats are available for DMLT at GVMC, and is competition high?
Ans. GVMC offers 100 seats for the DMLT programme, which is a relatively large intake for a government medical college. However, since it is a prestigious government institution with very low fees and excellent clinical exposure at the attached tertiary care hospital, competition is significant. Candidates with strong Class 12 marks (especially in Science subjects) and belonging to reserved categories have a better chance of securing a seat through the TNMSC counselling.
Q4. What career opportunities are available after completing DMLT from GVMC?
Ans. After completing DMLT from GVMC, graduates can work as Medical Laboratory Technicians in government hospitals, private hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood banks, pathology labs, and research institutions. Government job opportunities include positions in Tamil Nadu government hospitals through TNPSC and other state recruitment boards. Graduates can also pursue higher qualifications such as B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology for career advancement.
Q5. Does GVMC provide hostel facilities for DMLT students?
Ans. Yes, GVMC has separate hostel facilities for male and female students on campus. Hostel accommodation for DMLT students is available but is not mandatory. Hostel fees are charged separately and are not included in the course tuition fee of Rs. 3,000. Students interested in hostel accommodation should inquire directly with the college administration at the time of admission, as availability may be subject to seat allocation.
Q6. When does the DMLT admission process start at GVMC for the 2026-27 session?
Ans. Based on the previous year's pattern, the DMER Tamil Nadu typically releases the notification for DMLT and other diploma/certificate course admissions around June 2026. Online applications are expected to open in June-July 2026 on the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee portal (tnmedicalselection.net). Candidates should regularly check the official DMER Tamil Nadu website and the TNMSC portal for the latest updates and official notification for the 2026-27 session.
