The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) programme at Government Vellore Medical College (GVMC), Vellore is a 3-year 6-month (42 months) full-time diploma course offered through the School of Nursing attached to GVMC. The course is approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, and is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. GNM trains students in clinical nursing, midwifery, community health, and patient care across all major departments. GVMC offers 100 seats in GNM, with admission based purely on 12th standard merit through the Tamil Nadu DME centralised counselling process. The course is highly popular due to its government college status, subsidised fees, stipendiary seats, strong clinical training at the attached Government Vellore Hospital, and excellent career prospects in government nursing services across Tamil Nadu and India.

Admissions for the 2026-2027 session have been completed. The TN DME GNM counselling for 2026-2027 was conducted in August 2026, with the first allotment result released on August 11, 2026.
