A Comprehensive Guide to the IISERBPR Campus

Faculty:

The faculty to student ratio is pretty good here. It depends on the departments too. Mathematics department almost has a 1:1 ratio while in biology it is more like 1:20. Faculties are pretty chill and approachable for the most part and none have particularly bad relationships with students either. I liked Rahul Sharma from Physics, he is quite the enthusiastic professor and the best teacher of physics I have met in a while. Vyas Akondi from Physics is great too. he is quite organised in his teaching and structures courses really well, and cares a lot about students. Pabitra Barik from Mathematics is amazing, he is the most approachable person ever, and is a great professor too alongside his willingness to interact with students. There are generally two exams per semester, the mid sems and end sems, and the question difficulty depends on the professor. Generally, it is quite easy to obtain passing marks, but acing the course can be difficult. That being said, not a lot of students fail is courses, it is perhaps less than 1% per course generally (again depends on the course). The course curriculum is quite relevant and up-to-date, I must say, since the professors themselves would mostly bring out insights and materials from the current academia in their field of research.

IISER Berhampur, A Budding Institute With Immense Potential

Faculty:

Well the facukty members here are not professional teachers. They are researchers. They are working on their own theories and research along with teaching us. There are professors, assisstant professors, teaching assisstants, etc. However, for the first two years of undergraduate program, where we have to study all the branches, one-to-one interaction with the professors is difficult amonf 170 students. But they are approachable througm mail. From the third year onwards after taking majors, we can get more attention within a class of around 30-40. There were only a few faculty so far who were interesting though. One among them is Dr. Rahul Sharma. In the first semester, he mesmerised us with his absolute teaching skills on the course on Classical Mechanics. He is a very wise guy. He is the most approachable guy so far. He also gave us chocolates from his behalf on his first class and in the examination. Another one was Dr. Vishwas Chavan who cracked jokes multiple times during his class on his course on Introduction to Environmental Sciences. He also took us on cleanliness drive and to make us understand better, he conducted a theatre where we had to enact on a story related to many Acts taken to conserve the environment. He also gave hillaarious commentary during the Faculty cricket match. Regarding the exams, each semester we have two exams- one mid- semester exam and one end semester exam. They are relatively tough. But cracking them is easy with a good hold on concepts with thorough practice.

The faculties are really qualified and overqualified in some cases, there is a really good oppetunity of learning from those available.. But the thing is sometimes they are a bit too qualified and they sometimes dont understand if we understand few things. There is a need for interaction.

Faculty:

Faculties are very much approachable and there are also teaching assistants to help students in academics. Most of the faculties are renouned scientists with great achievements. There 2 exams per semester. It is easy to pass if one attends the lectures and spend a bit time in self study.
